ProtoThrottle Milestone

Today, we just finished shipping all the ProtoThrottle pre-orders. Thank you to all who ordered, and to the MRH community where this all started. We look forward to seeing where this goes in the future.

Norway

Took an amazing seven hour train ride from Bergen to Oslo up and over the mountains and past the glaciers and lakes. The ride was smooth, comfortable and scenic.

And along the way I spotted these cars. That pale greenish weather-beaten car in the background is a snowplow. And based on what I learned, there can be an awful lot of snow.

Raymond Loewy

An interesting read about the life of Raymond Loewy, influential in the design of Fairbanks Morse and Baldwin locomotives:

10x5' 12mm HO Queensland Based Layout.

Although not the basement empire dreamed of, just wanted to be able to have trains run around again.

Any one from the Brisbane region would have heard of Murphy's Creek, used to be a very important spot on the Western Line but now days is no more than a passing siding and 1 little off shoot.

It is a simple loop, middle will have a back drop and mountain to inside to block each side, the passing siding is Murphy's Creek and then heads up grade 2.25% to the loop (hidden under mountain) which represents heading up or down the Toowoomba Range.

N Scale track comparison

Is there a thread on this forum that discuses pros and cons of various N scale track manufactures. My son is getting ready to make a track purchase for a new layout that we are building and I'm interested to hear what other people have experienced primarily with switches.

BEWARE: short address is 0 to 127 and those numbers do not work as long addresses

As of June 19 2018 I changed the title as addresses problems had nothing to do with Kato and everyting to do with short vs long address confusion.

I just bought the KATO SD 90/43 SLRG #115 and #116.  They work in DC mode. Using a Digitrax DH126PS the decoder can have its long address changed.  When on a Run track the locomotive does not respond at all - no lights, no movement.  Taking the decoder out and putting it in another locomotive the decoder works fine.

Santa Fe 1st Arizona Sub under construction

Hello,

Work is progressing on my Santa Fe 1st Arizona Sub layout. The layout is in my double garage, which is insulated, and Gyprocked (dry-walled for my American friends). The layout is triple decked with the dreaded helix between each level, but that works for me to get the most out of yards and scenery. It is a representation of the Santa Fe mainline between Needles CA and Seligman AZ, 1951-1955.

Red Devil Restored To Operational Candition

I just stumbled on this. Apparently, South African Railways #3450, the only class 26 4-8-4 (rebuilt from a non-condensing class 25) has been restored to operational condition. This is the famous “Red Devil” rebuilt by David Wardale according to the principles of L.D. Porta.

Note, the really interesting bits are toward the end with some pacing at speed.
