New layout space? HO 18' x 11'

Hey all I have the chance to get a brand new layout space that is 18' x 11'.  No windows, no pipes no other intrusions.  There will be one door on one of the 11' walls but I have the freedom to place the door anywhere in the wall, I can even have it swing out from the room so it's all on big plus.  I may even be able to stretch it to 19' or even 20' but the 11' is literally set in concrete.

Wiring Diagram for Walthers Life Like Proto 1000 RS2

Hi there,

As the title implies, I am looking for a wiring diagram for a Proto 1000 RS2.  Anyone know where to find one, or can you identify the terminals on the picture attached?

Thanks,

Denis.

Fox River Trolley Museum needs funds to repair vandalized trolleys

The Fox River Trolley Museum (located in South Elgin, Illinos) has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to cover the cost of repairs to seven historic trolley cars that were vandalized early this month.  The damage, estimated to cost $100,000 to $150,000 to repair, was discovered by museum volunteers on the morning of Satuday, July 7.  South Elgin police have charged two youths, aged 11 and 13, with burglary and criminal damage to property in connection to this incident.

Losing power in a DC reversing loop

I have a reverse loop run by an Atlas controller (yes we still exist!) my old Athearn Blue box engines slow down tremendously in that section, while my newer Atlases run fine. I’m thinking upgrading to a more powerful power pack but am I missing something here? Thanks!

Bench Top Drill presses and bit sizes

Wife and I both want a bench top drill press with out spending an arm and or a leg.

Lowes has a Porter-Cable 3.2 amp 5 speed model that I fit a size 56 bit into and couldn't pull it out. Porter-Cable rep says it will handle down to 1/32 bit.

Grizzly who is here in town has what they call a mini model bench top #67942 which will also handle a size 56 bit and the floor rep says it will go down to a #0

So is a #0 bigger then a #56?

Anybody have some experience to share or just insights would help a lot.

Alternative to 3M Suitcase Splices?

For some time the 3M 558 suitcase connectors have been preferred by many for making splices between large gauge bus wires and small gauge track drops.

There is another product that in has several advantages and is the same price.  The product is the Wago 221-413 LEVER-NUTS.

These can be obtained on Ebay in lots of 50 for less than 40 cents each.

July 2018 running video - Let's run some trains!

We had a great time at the July 2018 op session running the layout(s).  Track work is almost done on the Inside Gateway section which will hopefully be fully operational for the August Op.  We also had a literal blast for the 4th of July, a wood chopping contest, and some of the guys got to run the narrow gauge too.  Enjoy!

digitrax UT4D throttle failure

My 5 year old grandchild was running a train with a UT4D when the speed changed to a crawl and the throttle had no ability to speed up or stop the loco. The only way to stop was to move directional toggle to neutral. Forward/reverse worked fine. I have checked loco out with other throttles and it works perfectly. Any ideas? Could the little fellow done something without realizing it? Hoping I won't have to send it to Digitrax for repair.  Scotchman
