Santa Fe - High Desert Division - Update 7/8/18
Layout Construction Update:
It has been some time since I posted an update as to the progress of the layout construction. Over the last 2 ½ months I have been working on installing the landscaping (scenery) at our new home. So it’s been all about moving topsoil, planting grass, planting trees…etc. so the layout room/area has taken a back seat. I have been working on it at night that is if I even have any energy left or if its raining. So here is the progress so far.

CR&N - PI-SPROG
My layout is not big. It’s a 9x4:5 foot shelf-style switching layout that only runs one loco at a time. I started out using straight DC before switching over to a NCE PowerCab (nice system). I had heard about using wifi to control trains, so eventually bought an NCE USB adapter. It was amazing to put down the tethered throttle! But...I had to have my laptop up and running and wires running here and there. There had to be a better way!

A New No. 8 Engine for the BVLC (On30 scatchbuild)
I'm afraid this post must start on a bit of a sad note. A couple of years ago, I used a 3D printed cab and scratchbuilt water tank to convert a Bachmann On30 2-6-0 to a 2-6-2 saddle tank engine. Although it looked good, it didn't run as well as I would have liked. A few weeks ago, I took it apart to try to tune it up, and add a currentkeeper to improve power pickup. Unfortunately during this, it took an accidental express trip to concrete junction. Most of the damage was to the body, and I did try to repair it. Unfortunately, my efforts were not s

Bluetooth controller for Engine Driver app
Steve Todd, Mr Engine Driver, has done it again! The latest version of Engine Driver includes the ability to use a small Bluetooth controller to operate your locomotives. I've been using Engine Driver for years and this ability is the greatest improvement to the app to date. The following short video I made shows how it works...
The controller is recharged via USB. Here is the controller...
Wye and reverse loop question
Hi guys I am looking to start building a outdoor O gauge layout. Nothing fancy just two big loops on each end for non stop running. My question is where I put the wye in-line with the mainline, how do I automate ie hands off, the wye so that the wye will switch by itself and remain in that position until the train comes back to the wye and goes back through the wye without derailing. So basically when the train comes in the first time it goes in one direction and as the train exits the wye it pushes the rails over to the other side and then when the train comes back it wil

ProtoThrottle unboxing
One of our customers, Jared Seliger, posted a nice video showing the ProtoThrottle being unboxed and setup:

Proto Heritage 0-6-0 help
Hi All, have just purchased a Proto Heritage USRA 0-6-0 which has a missing "bolt" for one of the side rods. I'll Post Photos below. Does anyone know where I might source a replacement or indeed what the size/thread is for these. I tried HO Seeker for an exploded diagram as I haven't yet physically got the loco to see if leaflet(s) are in box.

Farewell Operating Session
Hello,
last weekend I held a farewell operating session on my layout. The time period for the session was set to 1989. During the session I took some video footage. The result is shown here.
Enjoy the video.
