Santa Fe - High Desert Division - Update 7/8/18

Layout Construction Update:

It has been some time since I posted an update as to the progress of the layout construction.  Over the last 2 ½ months I have been working on installing the landscaping (scenery) at our new home.  So it’s been all about moving topsoil, planting grass, planting trees…etc. so the layout room/area has taken a back seat.  I have been working on it at night that is if I even have any energy left or if its raining.  So here is the progress so far.

How To Video: Box Fan dust filter

I just finished making a video on the box fan that I added a 16x25 furnace filter holder on.  This is to help out with dust control while I build the walls and work on drywall.  I am also thinking of keeping these fans on 24x7 for dust control once the layout construction begins.  I know there is nothing worse than having dust all over your scenery and track work and I am hoping this will reduce if not eliminate this problem.  Let me know what you think and enjoy!

Santa Fe - High Desert Division - Update

Hi All,

I have attached the current version of the track plan that I am working on.  For the most part its a double deck layout with lower staging.  I am looking for tips, concerns, possible changes and suggestions.  Below are a few stats about the layout plan.

Railroad:  ATSF & DRGW along with BN, UP, C&W and Santa Fe Southern (Kansas and New Mexico Divisions)

Era:  1990-1996

Scale:  HO

Min Radius:  30"

Turnouts:  Main Line #8 all others #6 (fast-tracks)

You will have to experiment with the photo viewer software to see if you can zoom in and if it will focus for you.  I do know that Microsoft Office Picture Manager will work for this.

So here is the La Junta to Pueblo (middle level)  I will try to post the Pueblo to Denver later tonight.

First I will update all of you on the layout design. I am modeling from Denver, CO to Albuquerque, NM (ABQ) in 1990 to 1996. In the center of this North-South run is La Junta, CO which will be the main classification yard. I am designing the layout so it will have a La Junta to Denver run (1/2 of the basement) and a La Junta to ABQ run. This is a double deck design with staging and a couple of short lines on the lower level.
