Modeling topic

Why ask for opinions or advice if you are not going to listen?

Is it just me or is there a new and growing tendency on forums (this one and others) for folks to post something extensibly to ask for advice or opinions and then for the topic to basically turn into the OP defending his/her original idea to the death ignore or finding fault with ever single person that comments in anything other then a positive manor.

Hi-Tech Ballast Spreader?

This was in an e-mail I rec'd from the Kalmbach Hobby Store.  First time I've seen a spreader that had as many bells and whistles as this one.  Way more than just a cylinder with an opening. Has anyone used this before or seen one used?  The text for it states it can be pulled with a loco - if so, and it works like the picture, man -o-man- the hobby is getting more and more prototypical every day!

Why only use model colors ???? So many to use beside Floquil or any model colors line

Since the demise of Floquil and Polly Scale, there are numerous questions and topics about the use of paints, in fact which colors and which line of paints could replace Floquil and Polly Scale.

Everybody seems lost, nobody knows what to use; questions are everytime the same : is it a good paint;  a good line.....endless but nobody seems really convinced by any other brands of colours except the deceased Floquil and Polly Scale line.

Texas and New Orleans Eastern Division......now kaput.....

It's been a while.  When I posted last we had bought a house in Northern Va.  and a layout in the basement was in the plans.  Then my Contract was not renewed.....So after 12 years in the DC area, (6/7 years designing/redesigning layout for basement .....I kept loosing space to housing superintendent....i.e.

HO Paving Tool - 3D Print Files

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3174846 This is a paving tool I designed in Sketchup to provide an easy way to maintain a consistent width and thickness of drywall compound “paving”. I’ve sized this to match the height of code 100 rail. While very handy, I must warn you it took 4 hours to print on my Printrbot Play. Let me know what you think, either here, or you can email me at mdlafond@yahoo.com.

Small Layout Design Help/Challenge - c.1905 Pennsylvania Short Line

Hey, Gang. Just getting back into the hobby and I’m deep into sorting out some design considerations for a smallish layout. I thought I’d start a post here to see if anyone would like to follow along or contribute. I’m months away from starting any construction, so I think this will be a fun thought exercise in the meantime.

LCC Implementation

Hello all,

Recently I took the plunge into implementing LCC (Layout Command Control) on the latest phase of expansion on my layout.  Long story short, the angst of making the decision was far worse than the actual implementation.  Frankly, its been a straight forward and rewarding process.  Documenting the adventure on my blog; latest update may be found at:
