Ken Karlewicz's HO Scale Delaware and Hudson Second Sub
Hey Guys
My Buddy Mike Confalone suggested that it was time for me to post something about my HO scale Delaware and Hudson Layout, so here is a one of my Youtube videos from 2017 ...

Hand signal question for the professional railroaders, signals are relative to...
At some op sessions, and especially at Live Steam op sessions, crews will use hand signals. I went back and reviewed the thread https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/30560 for some answers, but have one more specific one.
When doing switching, particularly yard or industrial work where you are working from both ends of the loco, what are Forward and Backward given relative to?

**New ProtoThrottles at Trainfest!**
THANK YOU to everyone who purchased ProtoThrottles from our initial run of 250 this past summer. We sold out that run and were very encouraged by the support and enthusiasm for the throttle.
GE gas-electric motorcars
Good Afternoon everyone
I model the Missouri and North Arkansas railroad in about 1916 or thereabouts, I'm looking for a HO scale model of a GE gas electric doodlebug like the M&NA's 103. I've looked high and low in plastic and brass but have come home with an empty sack. I've thought of using a Bachmann doodlebug as a starting point for a kitbash but I'm afraid it would be beyond my skills. Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you, Craig
Extruded Styrofoam-Compatible Rattle Can Paint
I've started painting my trackwork in Casper yard, which is laid on cork on pink styrofoam.
To begin I've put a general coating of brown over track, cork and foam. I'm using a Rustoleum flat brown.
I've discovered that it is not totally friendly to extruded pink styrofoam. Here's a picture of what I'm getting on the foam:
A little DCC help wanted: selecting sound for old electric locos
I have the desire to add sound to an old E33 locomotive (ex PRR, similar to GG1, but for freight) It's HO scale.
I've been shopping for a sound decoder, and precious few list electric loco sounds. Nobody that I've come across lists electric locomotives by type! I haven't (for instance) found a decoder that states it's suitable for the GG1, let alone the E33.
Seems simple enough, and I'm confident that someone knows which decoder is suitable... but I have yet to find it.
Identifying diesel roof parts
I'm eventually going to lightly weather this loco, (as it will be only a month after its paint job for the era I model) but I'm not familiar with the parts on the roof. It's hard finding prototype images of the roofs of these locos.
I'm guessing the fan is an intake, but I don't know what the cover is that is slightly over the edge of the fan. Also I'm curious to know what the raised screen is at the back.

NMRA printed calendar for 2019? Anyone seen one yet?
I'm curious, I submitted some photos for the NMRA printed calendar for 2019 but never heard anything back either way.
I'd have thought that by now, it would have been printed and sent out, but the newest magazine arrived yesterday and no mention of it at all.
Has anyone seen it or heard anything about it? I know in the past I've submitted stuff and then found out through a friend that it'd bene printed and I never heard from the publisher originally.
Difficult Athearn SW1500 NiB
I just received a NiB Athearn Ready to Roll SW1500 DC locomotive but DCC ready today.
I removed it from the box and tried a 9 volt battery to the wheels and only the headlamps came on.
I then placed the locomotive on the track and fired up my DC transformer/power pack.
The lights came on again but no movement from the locomotive at all but there was a very loud humming from the locomotive.
