Kit Cars on Display at Just Trains Shop Layout

Doing some shopping a modeler had his custom cars on display while he ran trains on the store layout.

I know little about these cars nor their prototype so this video is just a showcase of his work.

CAB LIGHT on only when locomotive not moving

Hi. I was just wondering if you can program for example a cab light that will automatically turn off when locomotive starts moving, and when locomotive stops ( speed 0) the cab light will turn on . I am using mrc sound decoder. I do know how to program basic light functions but I can't find anything online about more advanced light programming . Thank you for any advice

Big Horn Sub Track Plan

I thought that since I posted a question about the use of car cards and waybills that generated a lot of good information for me, it would be appropriate to post a track plan to help people visualize what I am sometimes not very good at explaining.

1950 Driveways (town/suburb)

I am finally starting to work on scenicking Exeter NH in 1950.  Unfortunately, one thing I can;t seem to find are photos of homes and particularly any with driveways and walks for the homes.  I am trying to figure out to what extent driveway would have been paved versus gravel, particularly within a quarter mile of the town center, so a few of the homes would have been large older homes.   The driveways are all paved today on the main road, but back in 1950?

So I have tried researching history of driveways, and not much useful being found.

DCC Wire size

I am getting ready to wire my new layout for DCC. This is my first round with DCC so I have a couple of questions:

-I have 10 ga stranded wire and 12 ga solid wire on hand. Would either of these be appropriate to use for the main Bus?

-What is the lightest feeder wires that I should us? I have some 24ga wire on hand.

Thanks in advance for the input

Skaneateles Short Line Railroad

Some time ago, there was brief mention of the Skaneateles Short Line Railroad in central New York State. I recently purchased a book with a map and many photographs of this rural railroad. The book, by Richard F. Palmer, is published by the Central New York Chapter, NRHS and is titled "Short Lines of Central New York." and can be ordered online:

Electrofrogs and Hex Frog Juicers

Hi,

I'm about to start wiring a bunch of Peco Electrofrog turnouts for my layout and am thinking about using a Tam Valley Hex Frog Juicer. According to the Tam Valley Hex Frog Juicer manual PDF on their website it states:

"Do not modify your electrofrog - just wire the frog juicer to the frogs (silver wires on bottom of turnout) as they come. The frog juicer will take care of the rest."

Some Questions about Car Cards/Waybills

I'm dipping my toes into the ocean of operations and struggling some with car forwarding. I have played around with JMRI Ops in the past but thought I would explore car cards and waybills. This post will explore some of the questions and (likely) misconceptions I have about how they are created and used.

Here is a photo of what I've created to this point. My observations and questions in the next posts.
