Manual Turnout Control by Cable
Basically I like the KISS principle. I like the idea of manual control for my turnouts where possible, particularly with Peco sprung turnouts.
I'm looking for as many ideas as possible for flexible 'cable control' of turnouts.

GP10 with super realistic sound
Below is a video of one of my GP10s with a new speaker install by Scale Sound Systems. The low-end response is amazing and it's exciting to implement this high-quality sound to my layout.
Traditional Refrigerator Car Colors
Why were many refrigerator cars traditionally painted orange or yellow?
Keeping Cost of Freight Cars Down
There have been many discussions on the MRH forum about the cost of our hobby. This topic is much more specific. It is about controlling the cost of individual freight cars. I have set a RULE for all of my freight cars. That is, the average cost of my freight cars is $20 and no more. Note, I said "average" cost, . . . not maximum cost. This means that if I spend $30 on one car, then another has to cost no more than $10 to bring the average back to $20. This sounds simple, but it takes a lot of personal discipline to make this happen.
Modeling a Herd of Nodding Donkeys
i would like to model 2 or 3 oil pump jacks on an area of my layout. Probably in a farmers field. This is in HO scale.
Small towns at an angle
Wondering if any of you have a town on your layout thats situated at an angle to the benchwork. I have always built my towns running parallel to the benchwork and wanted to try something different. Maybe a main street running at 45 degrees or something similar. If anyone has such a town would you mind sharing some pictures or ideas on how best to construct it.

Weekly Photo Fun December 15 - 21, 2018
Let's see your pictures of anything railroad.
Tis the season to make a little diorama
I made this little winter scene from a piece salvaged from a previous layout. It is a derelict Irving gas station. I just can't bring myself to get rid of the structures from a previous layout that I have no use for on my new layout. I think the third shot best depicts ambient light coming from a street lamp.

Keep-Alive for an Atlas Gold MD15 (and a bit of a review)?
I recently acquired an Atlas Gold MD15 switch engine with ESU LocSound installed. The engine looks good and sounds good. It crawls along right out of the box! The only issue I have with it is that it tends to die on turnouts (almost as if there is only one set of pickups, which I would be surprised to find). None of my other engines are having this problem. My track is pretty clean, and I am a fan of rubbing graphite on the rails. My turnouts are Atlas #4s (I know, I know, but they were on hand). I've never tried a keep-alive, and am wondering i
Friday Follies (or, What The Heck Did I Do?)
So, the last time I'd every driven spikes, or soldered a throttle (Onboard), or aimed a spitting Badger airbrush at rolling stock, was before my USAF change of station move from K.I. Siberia, er, K.I. Sawyer AFB in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, to Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY, right in the middle of that unpleasantness called "Desert Storm". 1991. Fast forward some 28 years and a dozen optician visits later, here I sit at a workbench again.
