Get started on weathering steamers - It´s fun!

I just finished weathering two steamers (one of them here in the photo). If you would like to have some inspiration of how to get started with simple weathering, please check out the short how-to video.

hardboard backdrop

A question to those who have used hardboard (aka Masonite) as a backdrop. Does it require primer before painting? Being a pressed fibre product, I'm concerned that it may soak up paint like a sponge. Opinions and experiences ?

I've been workin' on the railroad

After months of procrastination and several weeks of designing and rebuilding, I once again have a working railroad. It's been an exasperating time, even thinking about scrapping the whole thing and not having one any more. But patience and having people with a like interest to talk to, namely you guys, paid off. I was able to get out of the rut I was in and get back to doing. I'll post some pictures later, but for now, just a relief.

Rail connecters look fairly ugly

Rail connecters look fairly ugly and shouldnt be in highlighted showcase areas. Does anyone have a suggested workround or other option so it's not seen. Most places you get away with it. After spending a lot of time getting my ties right I got this big ugly metal thing sitting in prime view. Please help. James B

DPM Structure Kitbash butt joint is flexable

Last night I made my first butt joint of many in a DPM Goodnight Mattress kitbash to join two sidewalls into a single wall to make a low releif building.  I was really careful to get good 90* edges to work with, pushed the pieces together on a straightedge and applied the glue to the back of the joint.  I expected the glue to wick down into the joint and weld the entire seam, but it seems like there was little wicking action.  I am left with a beautiful, but quite flexable joint.

I feel like my options are:

NP Green Paint Match?

I need help color matching this NP boxcar green. It doesn't have to be an exact match as I will be doing some weathering, but I need to plug the holes from removing the roofwalk, and shortening the ladders along with removing the yellow strip on the door.

Any suggestions on what color(s) to use? I looked at the MRH paint guide and came up with: dark green, coach green, pullman green, or maybe CN green?

Expansion/Contraction of Foamcore

What are the expansion/contraction properties of a good foamcore product?

I assume you have lots of experience with that 3A product you use most extensively, Prof Klyzlr??

I am wondering about attaching my track directly to a 3/16" thick foamcore that would cover the entire surface of my 3/4" plywood deck, then using a sharp razor to cut out various shapes under certain structures and scenic areas that it might be desirable to remove as an entity to temporarily work on in a more open environment.

SP Fuel cars at Dunsmuir

Hey SP gurus, what type of tankers did the SP use for fuel cars often seen at Dunsmuir?

Thanks
