3D Printed Light Fixtures

In my last Layout Update I mentioned some 3D printed light fixtures that I have been working on. Here are some pictures of them as they came from Shapeways to adding Micro LEDs. With the Just Play system from Woodland Scenics you can easily dim them to the desired brightness and not have to worry about resisters. With my layout being an industrial complex I will be adding a lot of security and work lights. I will post the links below to the Shapeways files.

Neat / Free Scale Conversion Chart

I was frustrated by the lack of a "comprehensive" scale conversion chart for modeling, so I decided to build one myself.

http://www.timbratcher.com/model_scale_reference_1.aspx?XScale=87

I think it's pretty neat, because it shows fractions (to a 64th), decimals, millimeters, and "scale" inches (i.e., the inches in the scale you've selected or entered).  You can also enter your own scale, if you're modeling something off the beaten track.

Suggestions on the order process on my Free-Mo module

I'm finally at the point on my Free-Mo module to start doing the scenery. I was wondering what would be the best order to do things. It's pretty basic, just an asphalt platform, dirt parking lot, berm with telephone poles on one side and shrubs, old road bed and light poles on the other side of the main.

MRC Prodigy Express

Somewhere between Connecticut and Texas, I lost the flat cable which attaches the handheld cab unit to the base unit of my MRC DCC controller. It's an old Prodigy Express, but when last powered up it worked great, so I'm not anxious to toss it out.  I have been unable to find an MRC dealer who can help me.  Any ideas of where to get a cable, or can someone tell me the configuration for the flat cable so I can buy one, or get one made. Really appreciate any assistance.

Weathering a large scale 50' boxcar

The large scale forum that I regularly participate in (largescalecentral) has a yearly contest for 30 days. Spend no more than $30 and complete a project. Some years we get a theme, other years it's what ever we want. This year the challenge was open whatever you want. Rules are simple.

1. Have fun

2. Spend no more than $30, you get 1 'free' bottle of paint, and 1 'free' thing of glue.

3. Anything you have on hand prior to Jan. 1 is considered free.

Handrail stanchions (posts)

I'm working on a model of an early SD9 with SD7 style handrail stanchions.  The model I started with has the later stamped posts so they need to be changed.  I'd prefer metal if possible.  Supposedly, the Smokey Valley stanchions are too short.  I'm open to ideas for making or sourcing the pipe style stanchions or first hand knowledge of the length of the Smokey Valley stanchions.

thanks,

Paul

Johnstown takes shape

Finally got the track work done and trains running again. Now I have a rough draft of how Johnstown is going to fit into the corner. Overall I like the way it looks but obviously this is just an approximation.
