Looking for advice on backdrop scene
Hello,
I'm new to the forum but have been a long-time reader.
I've started building a new layout in the spare bedroom of my house. I can't use the whole room so It will be a shelf-style affair on three sides of the room. The shelves will be about 16-17 inches wide.
The layout will be roughly based on the iron ore operations in northern Minnesota. I don't have space for a mainline so the focus will be on yard operations, with the trains coming in from a hidden section to be sorted.
Plan Ideas
Hi guys, after being an armchair modeler for over a decade, I have finally secured a room in the house for my layout. I have attached a plan (I hope). I am not very good with computers sorry.
The size is 20Ft (6.1m) x 13Ft (4m). It's a bit of an odd shaped room, but it is what it is.

IAIS's West End - Rolling stock by the numbers
Best case, this is probably only going to be of interest to others who are afflicted with a level of OCD similar to my own , but I thought I'd post it anyway just to see if I'm alone in my thinking.
Steel Mill/EAF Modelers
I’m kind of curious: I feel like myself and a handful of other people are the only ones that model Electric Arc Furnace steel making as a stand-alone steel mill operation. As far as geographical location goes, I live in an area where I can model BOP/BOF or Electric. Is there anyone else on here that models EAF exclusively? Is there anyone on here that models any of the ancillary industries associated with steel making but not steel making exclusively? Thanks for your input.
Track grades
What is an acceptable grade when designing a layout. I have a rise of 1/2" per every 100" of track. Using 2 gp- 40's I can pull 15 cars well. I have weighed my cars to nmra standard and they run well. Are my cars too heavy or is my grade too high. Could use some advice. Thanks, Chuck
Need some Wifi Throttle help
First of all, I apologize for this request. I use NCE. I am not an IT techie at all! I bought a Dlink router and installed it yesterday and configured it through my laptop. I didn't have a long enough ethernet cable to reach my desktop. I click to start the jmri server and I get this message: "unrecoverable error encountered." java.lang. No such field error. HTTP2. then the program stops on the laptop.
P2K flat car kit with Owl Mountain Products lumber load
I recently starts building freight car kits that I had sitting around for 15 years plus. The layout has finally gotten to the point that I need to increase the freight car fleet.
Yesterday I was reading Tony Thompson's blog and found his technique for weathering flat car decks, so I figured I'd give the method a try and add some variety to my flat car decks. The site is at:

Aunt Minnie's Farm, from memory....
Hello to Rail Road Modeler's !!!
This picture here is a corner diorama that has survived from the previous layout, I plan on adding this into the new layout i am currently building, and designing as i go.

Relaxing the Prototype
Wow - Long time, no post (here, anyway). I'm going to try to keep this MRH blog a bit more updated. I can't believe that the last post here was last February(!) But - work/life/etc. Interestingly, I can pick up about where I left off . . .
Given the previous discussion about the (relative) futility of true Prototype Modeling (and thanks again to all of you that weighed in), you probably won't be surprised that I decided to relax things - just a little - due in no small part to the influx of a number of beautiful structures, some fitting with my specific prototype and many not.
