Algoma Ore Properties - Loading ore cars - volume variation
In thinking about the use of my Walthers ortner cars at the Wawa sinter mill, I came to the realization that various loads (coal, coke, iron fines, limestone, siderite ore, sintered ore, and blended sinter) might have quite different densities, and therefore the prototype would likely have different volumes of each material in the same car. The Walthers car comes with a load, of course, but it's a 'full car' load, and is a neutral light gray - which I'm using as limestone. After a google search was only partly successful, I posted a question to the Steel lis

IAIS's West End - A flock of MOW flats
You wouldn't think that a 2005-era modeler would be all that excited about 1950s and 60s rolling stock, but some recent research into the IAIS's MOW roster made me realize what a huge favor ExactRail did for me when they introduced their GSC 42' flat car and 53'6" bulkhead flat . Two examples of each arrived at my door a couple mo

GD Anabel car ferry in N scale
This is my first ship project for my port, made a long time ago; this ferry is in N scale.
Unfortunately, I didnt found any other pictures; the ship and my layout are in a container and on the way to come in Canada around the end of september.
This is a copy of the car ferry Anabel of the GD lines; I scratch this ship more than 35 years ago around 1983 - 85 from pictures of the book of Linn Westcott about the GD and some others find in MR and RMC published 40 years ago for sure.
Constant Current IC for LEDs/whatever
Came across this IC while poking around the web and thought I'd give it a try. It's an NSI50010YT1G and comes in an SOD123-2 package, so it's something of a bear to solder. What's neat about it is that is provides a near-constant current of 10ma, and can handle an input as high as 50V. This makes it pretty useful for constant-intensity lighting. The only other component you'd need is a diode in the 1n400x series to protect it from reverse voltage. Here's one that I wired up for testing purposes:

Creating an Ivy in H0-scale
Hi! Ivys can be modeled using kitchen twine.
Here´s the link to the video tutorial I made on the subject: https://www.modelrailroadacademy.com/video/creating-ivy-martin-tarnrot-017070/
Here´s a snap shot of the final result:

Layout status update
Hey guys, just wanted to give you a quick FYI, WE FOUND THE HOUSE!!!!!! Already measured the space and the layout will fit with a bit of room to spare. Waiting on the closing process to finish up so it's looking like move-in will be November and then hopefully January to start construction. Side note, been making some progress on the workbench projects. Will have an update out soon and a room/track plan reveal after that. Thanks for following guys and stay tuned.

Orient Express, HO model locomotives
How many different HO scale models exist of the steam engine that pulled the Orient Express?
I saw this one mentioned on the forums, as built by Roco,...
...Is actually a French Locomotive (Golden Arrow )
It made the connection of the Ferry Train from Great Britain: London - Calais - Paris... in less than 8 hours in 1950. The most Famous of them was the 'Chapelon' (Called after the famous French Steam Loco.Engineer) This 'Pacific' was produced in Ho by ROCO a few years ago.

Water flowing from pipes, looking for new ideas
Maybe I'm just not searching with the right terms but I'm having some difficulty finding modeled examples of this and/or how to. I'm not talking about torrents of water, I could use waterfall modeling techniques for that, but more just a trickle of water emanating from pipes coming from a retaining wall. The old method from years ago is to use a piece of cellophane tape or wire coming from the pipe down to the ground and then flowing Duco cement over it.

Vape units for "smoke" or steam?
I didn't want to disrupt the thread on smoke units so I decided to start a separate thread. It gave me a crazy idea though. What about these vape pens that are so prevalent these days? Seems like a very compact unit. Maybe some enterprising modeler could adapt one to produce vapor for a steamer. It seems to me that I saw a video of a larger scale loco that used water vapor but it might be possible to get the guts of one of the smaller vape pens in an HO loco.

HO Railroad that MORPHS!! (apologies to Linn Wescott)
I have been kind of quiet being as I have been dealing with working at a new job, trying to get a house ready to sell, and finally getting a new place lined up to move into in September. One thing I was looking for in a new house was a location I could have work space and layout. I have thought long and hard about what I want to do with my new space as both a work space and HO scale layout.
