DCC in n-scale Bachmann GP40
Trying to decide best way to convert this Bachmann N Scale EMD GP40 to DCC.
See from this TCS article there is some tedious and risky effort involved. Especially with cutting traces on the factory board. https://tcsdcc.com/installation/n-scale/2093
Kansas City Hobby Shops?
Good Afternoon Guys
I am going to Kansas city this weekend from Northwest Arkansas, are there any good hobby shops in KC or along the way you could turn me on to?
Thank you - Craig
TCS UWT-50 and Thumb Switches
I'll have an update this weekend about the TCS UWT-50 status (still having injection molding issues). But now I'd like to talk about the use of thumb switches. But, before we get into this, I'd like to note that I'm a volunteer on the project--although they do feed us when we visit TCS :-).

SMA41 Working Neon Signs for Most Any Scale
Neon signs were prevalent in the United States from the 1920’s on. Modeling neon signs in scale have had mixed results. Here is a method of constructing simulated neon signs (no high voltage and no glass) for most any scale you can imagine. Several approaches are presented from simple to elaborate. Let’s have a look.
Has anybody noticed that the coal trains are being replaced by tank trains?
I walk in a park bordered by the BNSF main line into Kansas City and there is a noticeable decline in coal trains but an increase in tank trains. Also noticed that there is a covered hopper as the first and last car in a tank train, what are they for? Also have seen a lot of equipment in very used condition heading west, some of it so old the graffiti has faded away to unreadable. Just yesterday there was a BNSF unit that the paint had faded back to the Santa Fe colors.

Blog index for Eric H.
As the date nears to move to the new Forum platform, I thought I'd review my posts. I didn't think I made any as a blog, but I was wrong. Here's a short index. A couple of these go way back to the earliest days of the MRH Forum.

Universal Forest Products and a church
The good news about modeling modern railroads is that we have tools like Google Earth that allow us to look at structures and track from the comfort of our homes. The bad news is that most industries are guarded more closely than area 51. Getting photographs of industries when visiting the area is challenging. The side of the Universal Forest Products plant in New Windsor I needed to model was completely obscured by fences, buildings and mounds.
The Shortest (Model) Run-around...?
Dear MRHers,
OK, here's one for the "can conceptualise in isolation" layout designer, trackplanner,
and specifically the "trackplanning for operations" modellers...

Roadbed and a Name Change
I've had some free time over the past couple weekends and made some progress on the layout. The foam is in it's basic shape, glued, and painted. Today I was able to get the roadbed glued down for the main and runaround as well as the transitions to the spurs. I just need to get the transitions sanded and paint the roadbed and then I will be ready to lay track!
