New 3D Printer
Finally did it.
About 6 months ago I bought a 3D printer. This was something I have been familiar with for years as an engineer. Prototyping part on 3D was fairly new and expensive. 6 figures expensive for a good machine.
Weathering vs graffiti
OK, so I'm an old guy! I think any train on the mainline HAS to have a caboose. I like my stuff to look as close to prototype as possible so I weather everything from engines to rolling stock to structures and vehicles, even figures!
How do you feel about graffiti? Is that "weathering" or pure vandalism? You know how I feel. While it can be very creative I just hate seeing perfectly good things with all that often vulgar, stuff all over it.

Plywood, Cork and Track or Plywood, foam, Cork and track
HI Folks:
Hopefully going to start cutting wood and building in the next day or 2, and I have been wondering if cork roadbed on directly on the 1/2 inch plywood or if putting 1 inch of pink foam under it first (allowing me to carve creeks and rivers and other depressions is the way to go.
Ive in my other thread about cork / homosate ive gotten a variety of opinions, and I've decided that Homosate is out for sure, but I'm curious about using foam, and how to secure track if I do?
Thanks

Painting My Laser Cut Barn Kit
I am getting ready as assemble a laser cut barn kit. The manufacturer is American Model Builders. The manufacturer recommends airbrushing the model and using a solvent based paint. I would like to paint the barn some shade of red, but there are so many variations of the color red. Has anyone assembled a barn and painted it a red color and if so what did you use?

Wherarewe Cat
Wherarewe Cat resides on the east end of Wyocena yard. I normally like to scratch build but I have had this Walther's kit (International Truck) for some time and the location on the layout has changed a number of times before construction. Still have a bunch of scenery work to do around the dealership and the lights need to be hooked up.

Base Colors to Enhance Primary Colors
I have wondered about this for a while, and a comment in another thread sparks re-interest. When painting, which base colors bring out the best of the primary color? Other than black, gray or white, what works better with certain colors? As stated in another thread, a silver base seems to bring out the best in yellow, I also heard that silver is a good base for red.
This isn't about the application process (brush/airbrush/roller), or thinning or acrylics/enamels/lacquers.

6th Ave Scenery
Next scenery project is the area around 6th Ave Yard. I have the the yard office and the support buildings done, now to the homes around 6th Ave.

Semi scale wheels
I bought some Semi scale wheels (.08 wide) and found they ran well on normal straight track (83) but i found they fell in the turnout gap near the frog. Has anyone else have tried these and do they run thru the turnouts smoothly. And a question I have about smooth running is ..should the flange take the weight thru the frog or is that complicating the situation. By the way my normal steel wheels (.110) run fine thru the turnout.

Arrggghhh - Proto 2000 Heritage 0-8-0 split gear
The subject line sums it up. The #4 axle with the gear is split, so are 2 other axles.
I have done 3 of these 0-8-0's in the last year for friends (install Tsunami, LED lighting, etc) and dodged this problem, looks like loco #4 is going to be the problem child.
Reading the various threads on MRH and MRR indicate that Walther's doesn't carry the parts and doesn't want to deal with the locos built before they bought the Life-Like brand.
NWSL? Thoughts?
