Rules?

Hello All,

What are some of the "rules" you have on your layout when you have visiting friends over to run at your house? Are there operation written rules or just verbal "this is how I would like it done" ?

Like I was thinking, one engine per cab so not to have too many running around, and always reset your switch after you use it..stuff like that. any ideas?

Thanks

Ernest

Short Line Boxcars (pictures repaired)

I have a weakness for Short Line/Incentive Per Diem Boxcars.   In additiion to a number of Bev Bel cars I've acquired, I also have a growing fleet of custom painted cars.

These two are Atlas Trainman Boxes done using some old Herald King decals:

Roadbed Opinions?

About to buy a large quantity of roadbed. Anyone have opinions about Midwest cork versus Woodland Scenics foam? Is there a better alternative to both other than homasote?

Reading the other posts on the site it seems most prefer cork. I should mention I will be using production flex track and caulk. No spiking of hand laid.

Thanks in advance.

Hall's Seafood Shack

The newest addition to the Tideflats waterfront is Hall's Seafood Shack. This is a Bar Mills Waterfront Willy's/Trackside Jacks kit. The kit was built fairly close to instructions with a few touches and details added to better reflect a more modern business. This kit was really a fun little project. This was my first Bar Mills kit, and I would highly recommend them based on my experience here.

matching PCB ties to stained wood ties.

Need help matching PCB ties to stained wood ties. I'm experimenting with hand laying code 40  track in N scale. I'm modeling a turn of the last century logging rail road with untreated hand hewn ties. I'm making ties from an old verical blind that I belive is made from split bamboo or rataan. It looks like wood, cuts like wood, sands and stains like wood but is more flexible than wood.

Layout #7

At last, the bedroom becomes the train room.  (The last "room" I had for trains was a 6'x10' space in the corner of my folks garage 50 years ago).  So, I'm going to document bits and pieces of my progress in constructing layout #7, in a nice, comfortable conditioned 10' x 12' room.  More entries follow this intro.

"Cold" Solder for heat sensitive parts

Sometime ago I throught I read somewhere about a "cold" solder that was actually some sort of adhesive that had fine conductive power in it.  The idea was that this stuff was to be used without any heat at all for making electrical connections.  This stuff is not to be confused with "Liquid Solder" which clearly states that it is non-conductive.

Has anyone heard of such a product?

****** UPDATE*****

I did a Google search for  "Electrical Conductive Epoxy" and here's some of what I found:
