This ferry is as basic as they come. Proportions can be guesstimated from pic. Please note the bridge in the middle of the breeze!

Measuring Twice

OK, the backdrop is completed and the sub-roadbed of pink foam is down; lights from IKEA are on their way and will be installed shortly. NOW, what is the best way of laying out the track before purchasing it? Paper copies? Use a 3ft section and draw around it? Mark a centerline?

Help with a lights only decoder

Hello all,

I am about to attempt to add a TCS lights only decoder to a loco with an existing decoder. I plan to use the TCS for the rear ditch lights that are currently attached to the rear headlight. I would like to have the ditch lights flash when the horn is sounded just like the current decoder works, but am a little fuzzy when it comes to the CV programming. Any suggestions or hints would be greatly appreciated.

Evolution of a River

I posted this also.

I have been working recently on the "Oneapee River" crossing on my Diamond River Valley Railroad. Please enjoy the pictures. while I am only using a simple point and shoot for these pictures I hope to be able to take some nicer shots once the scenery is  more or less complete.

The first shot is that of the blue foam being roughed in.

The Saga Continues

I've been moving along, slowly but surely.

I am still working on my mine buildings. Specifically, the hoist house. I actually had it all finished, but I did not like the result. There wasn't really anything wrong with it, it just wasn't right. I've attached some photos so you can see what I mean.

Deseronto Yard Design Finalized

At long last the yard design is finalized. I am not overly happy about some of my compromises but I think it is workable. Some of the stuff that I wanted to put in the yard just would not go -- the coaling tower and ash pit. Since this is a transition era layout I decided to put those items in a different area and leave some foundation marks in the yard when I finally landscape it.

Operation on a switching layout.

I am working on a 2' wide shelf industrial layout (8' x 10' x 5') and am wondering if there is a lower limit to the number of customer spots that are needed to keep the layout from becoming boring to operate.  The current design has 22 customers with a total of 56 car spots.  I have a four track fiddle yard to supply the layout that holds 34 cars.  This is a post depression USRA era layout based on an actual prototype (NKP).  The prototype had over forty customer spots in a rather tight area (roughly 5 blocks by 10 blocks), so dense trackage and buildi

Prototype HO Signals

I model in HO and I am looking for information to build my own target signals (single light).  Does anyone know what the correct prototype size is for led's (3 mm, 5 mm, etc.) in signals? It appears the size in some of the commercially available ones are too large and do not look like the prototype.

Thanks.

***UPDATED*** Alcove Expansion - Backdrop Part 1 - Horizon & Clouds

******* UPDATE ******** THIS JUST IN!

Well, my artist came over tonight for "next steps" and when she saw the clouds she said "they have to go!"  Among the things she said about the clouds were "too many"..."too big"...."not realistic".  Ouch!  She was the one that told me to paint clouds (after seeing what my clouds looked like on the existing portion) and told me to paint the horizon so she would know where to start painting.
