Help with Pittsburgh area information

I'm looking for information about hobby shops and model railroad clubs in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. My wife and I along with another couple are going to Pittsburgh in early July to see the Cubs play the Pirates (yes we're Cubs fans - please pray for us) and to chow down on a Primonte (sp?) sandwich. Since we'll be there for a couple of days and all of us are modelers, any help you could give me on clubs to contact and good railroad hobby shops to visit would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Steel Groups+

Don has posted some great photos of his steel mill, and I thought it an opportune time to mention some groups out there that can help others. These are generally industry specific and most are for model railroaders.

JL&T Railway Blog - Fuel Transfer Terminal

Hi All,

Well thought it's time for another update on the progress on the JL&T.  Over the past week I have been working on the other major area on the north area of the top deck.  The JL&T Fuel Transfer Terminal (FTT), the FTT is a medium sized transfer terminal from rail to rail, rail to road, and terminal to industry.

Intermountain Railway -Passenger Cars...

HI All,

Was looking at getting a couple of Intermountain passenger cars for the fleet and was wondering if anybody has them firstly, and secondly what has been you experiences operating with them.  Importantly how do they track through 28" curves (minimum), and handle #6 turnouts?

Also how do they rate with quality, build and lastly but not overly important prototypical appearance.

Thanks in advance,

Jas...

too much weathering powder resulted in structure which is too dark - how do I correct this?

I am building a steam era roundhouse (the old SS Ltd kit) and overused black weathering powder, resulting in the structure looking too dark.

Since I have sprayed the powder with acrylic fixative, how can I correct the overall look and feel?

Suggestions anyone?

BTW, people are correct about the lighting being construction lighting.  "Run time" model lighting is still in the discussion phase, so we will bring some temporary incandescents in for evaluating weathering changes.

What are your favorite ride-along railroads?

Apparently I stepped on a few toes with my "The Doldrums" editor's soapbox in the June issue by omitting a number (a large number) of railroads where you can ride along historic rails, sometimes behind steam power.
