Mini-RU11 Auto Reversing Unit

Hi!  I am setting up a trolley line for a Christmas holiday town display using "N" gauge.  I have the track, transformer, bumpers and trolleys.  I just purchased this auto-reversing unit, but the instructions are not quite clear enough.  Any additional ideas as to how to set up the light sensitive posts for the unit?  Any help would be very welcomed!  Thanks!

Redneck Flower Planter, or subtitled "I never promised you a rose garden"

Well, when Buck & Loretta's old toilet busted Buck was going to throw it out when Loretta said "Honeybunch, ain't it a waste to throw away such a nice ole' toilet as it's got a lotta of good memories".  Buck put on his thinkin' cap (the camo one) and came up with a brilliant idea - a beautiful front yard planter!  He hauled the toilet out front of his trailer house and Loretta did the planting of some purretee pink roses!

Trouble shooting the Walther's N turntable.

So I was making some fine-tuning adjustments to my Walther's built up turntable, the earlier non-DCC one, and I think I may have rooned it.

In the process of cleaning and adjusting the wipers in the pit that transfer track and motor power to the bridge, I think I created a short that lasted longer than it liked.  Now when I turn on the main power to it, the LED just blinks and blinks and blinks.  I get track power, but no movement of the table whatsoever.

22 Stories Up - Module 1 - Micro Scene

One of the advantages to working on small(er) layout sections is you can play with various elements without feeling that guilty about other, necessary work getting done.

I've been planning this for a while, and finally I had the time to put it together.  It's not a big deal, but it was surprisingly more fun than you might think.

Instead of me boring you with my text, I think I'll let the pictures tell the tale, and save us all 10k words.

My personal Blog

Hallo,

I´d like to share my view of this great spare time activity with my friends. For this, I have done a Blog - but only in German. Maybe it can be translated via Google for the readers not so familiar with my native language. Anyway you may find some interesting stuff and links.

Warning - Dangerous saw technique on making throttle pockets

Below is a quote from Joe Fugate on the throttle pocket thread and I thought that is was important enough to have it's own thread so it was "buried" in the original thread.  When using any cutting tool be sure to keep your fingers (and anything else you don't want cut off) a safe distance from the blade.  When necessary use "push sticks" or clamps to hold the work in place.

"It's come to our attention that the video showing this pocket making technique demos hazardous practices using a chop saw.

Lesson learned - Christmas light experiment is a failure

Well, I tried, and it didn't work.  Since I think it's important to share failures as well as successes, here you go.

The Idea: to light a layout using LED Christmas lights (in this case, a 50 light 12'6" string sold by Wal-Mart for about $7).

The Experiment: Make a crude temporary valence out of cardboard, attach a string of lights, and see how it looks.

The lights attached to the valence:

New FREE MP3 background sounds - downtown city sound added to Richlawn RR site

If you're using MP3 players for background sound (see the August MRH magazine article) and would like another free downtown city sound file, click on the link below.  The file is 15 minutes long, 14mb and has ambient background sound, cars, trucks, kids playing, dogs barking, and other various other sounds.  This is the second of (4) four downtown sound files that I have and use on my railroad.  I'll be posting others later.  I created the files myself using totally free sounds so that there are no license issues.  You are free to use and distribute them.
