Deseronto Yard Turnout Operations Update

It has been an interesting couple of weeks with very little progress being made on connecting the Humpyard cables to the turnouts.  Superficially it looked pretty simple but due to a combination of the benchwork height and a slowly healing knee injury it has proved to be pretty challenging. The documentation provided by the Humpyard folks quite decent, in my opinion.

Rivarossi 0-8-0

I have acquired a 40 year old rivarossi 0-8-0 loco which is in perfect condition except for part of the motor.

The casing which goes around the cogs which lead to the drive shaft has eroded and is breaking up, in fact a piece has broken away. As I live in the UK, parts are extremely hard to come by.

So any suggestions on how I may repair this item would be greatly appreciated

Use it or lose it?

Use it or lose it - so the saying goes.

I did sneak back into the layout room to run some track cleaning cars around the layout and discovered something very interesting!

It seems that of the twelve locos sitting in the Matthews freight yard that four of them wouldn't run - and they all ran when parked there about 6 months ago!  Of the four locos three of them did nothing - no sound or movement.  One of the locos the sound only worked but it wouldn't move.

Upper Valance - Part I

Well, it isn't sexy and it sure isn't fine modeling but hey, first things first. My upper fascia installation progress thus far. With a little drywall mud, a coat of paint, and some suspended ceiling tiles in place I think it is going to work out swell. Amazing how rigid 1/8" hardboard can become when formed into curves and screwed in place.

Open House at the Richlawn Railroad for the Piedmont Pilgrimage

This past Saturday October 15th was my open house on the Piedmont Pilgrimage model railroad tour.  The tour started on the 15th and I was the very first layout on the tour.  This year there was one less railroad in the area as George Potter passed away and we lost his excellent layout which featured over 400 feet of double mainline.  George was a great person and wonderful modeler.  Since my layout is one of the greatest distance from the Atlanta area I didn't know what to expect for the number of visitors as it's over an hours drive for most people.

DCC What to do?

Hi All...

I am just getting back into modeling after about 26 years away. DCC is really new to me and I want to get a system for my new layout. With all of the different systems it is a bit over whelming.

I don't want to buy something and them later realize what I bought doesn't do enough for me. I am not sure what I even can get or what is a good or not so good system.

Can you all direct me to good systems and possible share what possibilities there are out there using DCC and what other additions might work well.
