First time decoder install

I am installing a Tsunami in a Steam Loco, in the tender. This is my first and I am wondering about dressing the wires from the engine to the tender. The loco already has a two pin plug from engine to tender for power pickup an routing. But I have four other wires which must go from the tender to the loco. I don't want the colors showing and I am wondering what other folks do about this. Any advice?

CNJ Blue Comet

Does anyone have any info, pictures etc. relating to the Central RR of NJ Blue Comet?  It was a top notch excursion train from NY city to Atlantic City.  Thanks....

Masonite track cleaners - an old idea that WORKS!

Many of you know about this and use this type of car already.  This is a reminder for those that haven't tried it, and for the new modelers who may not have heard of or seen such a thing yet.

Neophite Modeler Needs all the help he can get!!!

NeophiteFirst off, greetings to all from me, Bruce Bennett. I'm a rather new member to the forum and train modeling as well. I'm back into modeling after a 40+ year hiatus.  DCC brought me back!  Anyway, I've got a rather large 4 car garage of which I'm only using half of. The unused half was used for storage of a 38' class B motorhome. Since the motorhome is gone I now have approximately  300 square feet with a 15' tall ceiling.  I've included a .jpg drawing of the garage (not to scale) to give you an idea what I have to work with.

DIY Switch Machines?

Has anyone ever attempted to build their own motorized slow motion switch machine?

I am a low-budget N scale modeler who would like to build my own if I can.

I can't afford the amount of Tortoise switch machines I would need, but I would like a solution I can use with my DCC system.

Thanks,  Andrew

Walthers Ore Dock repair_Plastic part replicated with brass etching

The club has a Walthers ore dock that will be used in the new layout expansion. It had a broken bracket that supports one of the ore chutes. I decided to replicate the plastic part with a brass etching. I used my new Nikon D5000 to shoot the video. It came out blurry in some shots due to low light but you can see the process I used.

Progress on Code 70

Ninety-eight percent of the mainline is in and work has progressed on the various yards and sidings. More track is needed and power drops need to be made. Please excuse the focus quality on some of the shots, but you'll get the general idea from these. Code 70 rail joiners are the hardest damn thing I've ever worked with. . . .and most everything has to be cut to fit - thankfully I own a Dremel!

The new N scale Dapol Class 26

Last week I received my brand new Dapol Class 26 which is nicknamed MacRat by british Railfans.

JMRI error 306

I'm trying to program decoders using JMRI and Sprog II and have done successfully in the past 5 days.  Turned computer back on with nothing else changed and I keep getting an error 306 - timeout talking to the command station.  I put back locomotives successfully programmed last week and continue to get the same error on the programming track.  I've tried connecting directly to the wires coming out of Sprog II with not success.  Port assignment has not changed and the computer does identify Sprog II as using that port.  I tried restarting the computer and
