Video of operations at Deer Hollow in the alcove addition
O.K. - try not to laugh, but if you've got around 12 minutes with nothing else to do please check out my video of my very first operation "mini-session" in my alcove area. The actual session took about 20 minutes but I edited it down to about 12 minutes to hopefully reduce the "snore factor". The video is kind of a "quickie" but you can get the idea. As usual, your comments, suggestions, and remarks are appreciated. Thanks for watching!!!
Bingham Canyon and if I had a million to model it. Link repaired.
Here is an old B&W video of the Bingham Canyon operations for your enjoyment. It is an advertisement documentary that run a little over 9 minutes. I hope it gives someone some modeling ideas. Imagine having the basement and the funds to model this operation! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_Cd2l2qymI

iCar from Minuteman Scale Models
I've discovered yet another use for my iPhone - on car videos using "iCar" from Minuteman Scale Models (http://www.minutemanscalemodels.com/product_p/87-10.htm.) This is pretty cool.

Axle/truck mounted motors - thoughts?
Okay, take a look at this:
http://www.railflyermodel.com/products/mk-9011-traction-motor
According to the description: "Our "Traction Motor" is powered with a 6 volt, 23 ohm motor, and geared for 49:1 operation."

What does coke look like?
The sugar beet industries used a lot of raw materials in the sugar extraction process. Two big commodities were limestone and coke. I know what limestone looks like but I'm not sure how to model coke (no, not the soda pop). I need to make loads for hopper cars and create piles of it around the beet factories.
Timesaver - event counter rather than timer
I'm building a John Allen Timesaver layout, using DC, for a friend recovering from an illness. I'm looking for an inexpensive (buy or build) electronic counter that is resettable and will increment each time the loco changes direction, as an alternative to the stopwatch. Many decades ago I built Heath Kits, so a list of Radio Shack components and simple "non-engineer" instructions/pictures should work for me. Planning&nbs
Old School
So this might shock a few people, but I'm going old school DC block control on my new NScale layout. I don't have the cash to invest nor do I want to try and convert all my locomotives to DCC. I kind of like flipping the switches on a dual cab setup anyway.

Success!
A new engine has entered the roster at the Euclid yard of THE GREATER NICKEL PLATE. Thanks to help from friends on this site, much sweating, swearing, soldering, testing, re-soldering, re-testing and praying. S-4 Number 12 is alive and running after installation of a new motor and a Z scale decoder.

Wilmington & Northern Branch: Switchlist
Mike Rose posted a switchlist generator over on the Operations Forum and I modified it for the W&N to explore additional capabilities.
Here's a link to my version.

I will continue to use car cards but this is an alternative.
