Elwood's Place - Progress

Things sure move fast now that FEMA is reeling from the criticism it got over the N'awlins Relief Disaster. Not everything is done, but the County Extension Agent has been busy. The well and pump have been certified; and they hired that Pearl woman who runs "The Good Earth" landscaping company to come in and plant trees, ground cover (Elwood doesn't own a mower and sees no sense in buying one) and survey the river bank for some shoring up work later on.

Shhhh.. Making an old decoder quieter?

I put an older SoundTraxx decoder into a cheap Bachmann F7 recently.  Aside from running backwards (%^&$#! Bachmann wiring practices....) it runs fine.  It is, however, a bit on the noisy side.  I've been told by another modeler who has a number of these that his are all nice and quiet, and on reflection it seems that the noise is coming from the PWM motor drive.

Boston Road Eastern Railroad

The following are excerpts from a 15 page layout proposal I have been developing since the offer my fiance and I placed was accepted on a new home a few weeks back.  Although I will not begin construction for at least a year or two, I am looking for some much-needed criticism on my initial thoughts and ideas.  Although not noted within the proposal, I will have an area approximately 24' x 12' at my disposal; however, these are not final dimensions.  The proposal covers the entire railroad as imagined to date.

Athern / Digitrax decoder installation problem

Hello all,

I have been having problems with with a Digitrax decoder in an older Athern HO SW-9.

The decoder I installed was a DH123D rated for 1.5 amps with a maximum of 2 amps short term.

Need help finding info on Brawa Der Salonwagen

Greetings. First time poster.

I was an employee at a well known model railroad company. I was given a nice piece of model railroad memorabilia by my boss. I'm hoping someone can help me more clearly identify this item.

It is packaged in a nice wooden box. Printed on it is:

Brawa

Der Hofzug der Koniglich-

Bayerischen-Staatsbahn. Etwas ganz

besonderes in hochster Qualitat

Der Salonwagen

Inside is a Brawa ID card, listing the item as #210, dated 6/7/1992

Pick-ups/drop-offs inside structures

I got to thinking about spots inside industries and how to tell when we've suitably coupled onto a car - without damaging the car or coupler or knocking the back wall of the industry into the side wall of the adjacent industry.  Thinking about something is good.  Not coming up with a solution is not so good.....

Thoroughfare Gap Railroad

Hello everyone, I’ve been reading MRH for about a year now and really enjoyed reading through the forum and seeing everyone’s layouts. I’m in New Zealand in a small town where I don’t have any connections with other local modellers so it’s nice to still get to see what other people are working on.

TO foam or not to foam....this is my question

After going through the track template posting, I have come up with a question.  Now I understand that people have a preference and all, but with me on the verge of starting my layout, and only having one bridge, I am left to wonder, should I spend the extra money and put a 1" foam down on top of the plywood, per perhaps, just lay the track plan on the plywood, and just add my cork?  My main line will be a 2 layer level of cork, and I will uses sheet cork where possible...but it is this question I am stuck with.
