Bob Karig 1946-2012

Lt. Col. Martin Robert Karig, III (U.S. Army, retired), died suddenly on November 2, 2012, while attending a military alumni reunion in San Antonio, Texas. N-scale track plan - comments welcome

Hello.  I was hoping for anyone’s thoughts or ideas on my track plan.

Reusing Cork Roadbed?

So I picked up an unfinished 4x8 layout from a guy today, full figure 8 plus sidings ect.

The entire thing is flex track (I'm thinking code 100) and on cork roadbed.  Came with 20 cars and 2 engines, transformer, switch machine (old atlas table top type) and some scenery (mostly just extra ballast); all for $40!

I grabbed it just for the track, but when I got it home, I found out that neither the track nor the cork roadbed was glued down!  just nailed!  Score!

DIY DCC, Where and how should I post an article

I am making my own DCC decoders, see this: DCC interior lights, they are with onboard decoder.

Nothing fancy, just ordinary on/off, but after posting there was feedback asking me to do an article.

Now the question is, how should I do it, I am not sure that the nice people from MRH are interested in crossing the pond just to look at some decoders, although I would be honoured if they would.

Reefers get the new corporate treatment

In our supposed Sunset North eastern, one of the main industries is a meat processors called 'Easter Meat Packers'. This is a railroad owned company so should be in some sort of alignment with corporate branding!. I did look up EMPX but that was taken along with EMPY so I have gone for the EMPZ reporting mark.

Something I haven't seen modeled often

I was just looking at the Shoo-Fly module thread, and something caught my eye.  In 1:1 railroading, it's quite common to see the remnants of old wood pilings beneath or beside more modern concrete or steel bridges.  In some cases, the pilings ended slightly above ground level and served as a base for the trestle bents, in others the bents have simply been cut away when the new bridge was built.  But I cannot think of many model bridges which have been treated in this fashion.  Plenty of steel and concrete, and of course plenty of wooden trestles, but how many folk

A portable display layout.. part 1

I was asked to help find some portable layouts locally for a display (incl. handing over the throttles) at a local retirement home. I've gotten some responses to it, and I'll definitely be getting back to them about it, but I also thought that this might be a nice opportunity to build something of a throwaway layout.

In Z scale.
