Modeling topic

Greenville & Northern

Was wondering if anyone is modeling the Greenville & Northern?  With the railroad gone now for some time there is a lack of overhead shots that could be used to design a short layout and I have all of the magazine articles about the railroad though none show details about sidings and how the industrial trackage was laid out.  The articles have nice photos that gives some idea but not enough to be fairly accurate.  Any suggestions as to sources for such information?

Crossing Canada by HO Streamliner

I was attracted by this photo in a UK national newspaper of apparent flooding on the CP main line in British Columbia.

A portable display layout.. part 2

Okay, it's not going nearly as fast as I need it to - partially because I was too afraid of making a mess. I forgot how much diluted glue doing something like this takes....

So, I've carved a hill that I'll hit with Celluclay and put in a parking lot and the start of a "woodchip" path:

Simple line side structure to model

Here's a simple lineside structure from the Norfolk Southern mainline in Hot Springs, NC. Could be a fun project and you only need a trailer, some strip wood and other misc detailing.

Presentation - Model Railroading for the 21st Century

OK folks, this past weekend at a local technical conference I proposed a session I called "Model Railroading for the 21st Century". The proposal received an overwhelmingly (and surprising to me) positive response. So, I delivered it and the folks attending really seemed to enjoy it. What's more, I know for a fact that at least one person who had no prior model railroading experience went to the local train show the next day and bought over $80 in trains to get started!

Bachmann 70-ton single motor version

A recent thread (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/9792) about the two motor version has led me to start this discussion of the single motor (current) version.

I am looking to model a shoreline railroad (the Santa Maria (California) Valley Railroad in early 1962. At that time they had a light Mikado and 5 70-ton GEs and (the very first) U6-B. http://mrdccu.com/layouts/SMVRR.htm

I can kit-bash a 70-ton into a U6-B. however, the issue is getting a good 70-ton loco to start with.

Rotary tool suggestions...

Hello everyone,

I'm looking into getting a Dremel (or other rotary tool) but I am not sure which style I should go with.  What do you use? What should I look for?

Thanks for the help.
