Rio Grande Southern - new videos !!

This post is a about some recently discovered / published RGS film footage.

The first is a short but interesting clip featuring Goose #3 in 1935, plowing snow and later pulling into a crowded Dolores depot.  The Goose was nearly new, and in its original dark paint scheme.  Chris Weiser discovered this clip, and the Ridgway RR Museum noted it, in their Jan 2015 newsletter.

Dimensions of Alco Cab in HO Scale needed

I'm working on some decals for an FRV RDS15 but I don't have shell to scale the photos to.

Can anybody tell me these 2 dimensions from an HO Scale Cab?

- Height to under edge of roof (flat portion of cab)
- With of cab side (most important)

Thanks!
- Bill

More C&S Modeling

Lincoln Pinn returns to the C&Sn3 with a report about his recent visit to Billings Montana. He describes the modeling of C&S coal and cinder cars being done in that fine town.

You can read about it here: http://coloradosouthern.blogspot.com/

Enjoy if you visit, Darel

Good News Bad News

First the good news. Right now I'm in the process of building helices at both ends of the staging yard for my N&W Pokey District layout. (I'll update you on the helix construction in a later post.) Since building a helix takes some time to do, while waiting for glue joints to dry, I managed to get the staging yard on the new layout completely wired.

ALASKA RAILROAD

I LOVE these new Bowser C430's with the sound, so being that none of the boys up here have any ALCO experience, I had to dip the hook in the water....Maybe if the Alaska Railroad had purchased 425's & 430's instead of EMD, Alco would have been in better shape.....this is what they may have looked like....

Copying some Obscure and Unheard of railroad...Freelancing?

This might be an old document file.  (1996 give or take a few years).  From the http://www.GSMrr.org/ website. So would it be Freelancing to copy a railroad that has little to no information about it from route to motive power etc. or just make up a history to fill in the huge gaps left from no documentation to failure of the railroad to mergers etc.  Makes you wonder when you cross over from Prototype fidelity to Freelancing?

Engine House

Next Up:

My layout (tentative name LT&SS) will feature geared steamers, so there needs to be a service area. That includes the water tank, of course and some sort of engine house. The pike is too small for much, so this single stall model from RSLaserkits is ideal.

Maybe this won't be the comedy the water tank was.

G. T.

I bought a cheap static grass applicator...

$30 what the heck.  It is battery powered, but now I am thinking about making it a plug in and upgrading the ION generator.

Do you think it will make a big difference, or should I just stick with the set up the way it is?
