South Main Mine Mock Up
Further to coming at it from another direction, I finally got the benchwork/shelf completed for the South Main mine headframe area and figured I should mock up what the headframe might look like. Using my favourite apple juice tetrapacks as the Ore and waste bin area and the container from a fine single malt scotch along with some diced tomato cans for the headframe I came up with the mock up in the pictures below. Some extra foam chunks were used to rough in the steel lattice framing footprint on the headframe.
Rivarossi 5104 Turn Table
I just came across an old turn table that I had stored away and forgotten about. It is the Rivarossi 5104 model and is complete with pit, bridge and control box. The control box is wired into the bridge but I can't figure out how to wire the control box to a power supply and whether the required power is fixed AC or fixed DC from the power pack.
Internet searches have proved useless. References to an article in Model Railroader, Jan.1980, keep popping up but it relates to modifying the track wiring not to initial hook up.

New product - Steam loco running board steps
I thought some folks might find these interesting or useful. I've created a set of running board steps (HO scale) to be 3D printed at Shapeways. They are based on Southern Ry. prototypes, though I suspect the same basic design was used by several railroads.
Kato N single crossover
Just received the LH crossover and as seems the norm with Kato it is a beauty. Not installed yet but it is a useful piece of equipment. I see that the RH is out now too.

REAL train songs. You can understand the words.
REAL train songs. You can understand the words.
There are hundreds (maybe even thousands) of Train Songs available on the www by numerous artists. In my estimation (and from my experience of having entertained in music for many years) there are rules for what qualifies as a genuine train song.
1) The song can be more credible if it includes the name of the train, rail line or event.

Trains and music...
Yeah... so there's not really a good category for this...
There have been a couple of regular posters here that have "outed' themselves as professional-grade (if not actual working) musicians. Let's see what we can find - original or otherwise - of music and/or videos with a train theme somehow involved in them. I'm sure we all know about the Orange Blossom Special and Chattanooga Choo Choo.... let's take them as given and go from there. For example... (see next post...)
Using Lego Bricks for Square Corners
Getting 90 degree corners on structures is not particularly easy. Some time ago, I realized I could make it much easier using something that I still have tubs of laying around from my childhood: Legos. The blocks are perfectly square and can be attached with cyanoacrylate adhesive (CA) to every plastic or styrene surface that I've ever used.
