Electrical mystery

The strangest thing is happening on my track. My loco slightly shudders/hesitates intermittently when heading south on my layout at higher speeds, but not north bound. If I turn the loco around facing the other way, it still hesitates heading south, but not northbound. So It seems there is nothing wrong with the loco.

My next test will be to reverse the lead wires to the track to see if it changes the shuddering to the north bound direction... will try this tomorrow.

Sound Deadening Board on Plywood Subroadbed

Local Home Depot has 1/2-inch 4x8 sheets of "Sound Deadening Board" that is not as dense or heavy as Homasote.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

This is my first attempt at this so I hope it works. I am a member of a club in a retirement community that is only a little over a year old. We have received a couple of donated HO layouts we are in the process of integrating together to make something for the other residents to enjoy.

The Problem with Construction...

As many of you know I've recently started construction on my new layout. Occasionally in the middle of construction though, ideas come to you that you didn't have before, necessitating a pause to consider whether you want to continue as planned, or go with the possible new revision. I find myself at such a point and am looking for the opinions of my fellow MRH to help me decide which way to go.

Scenes and Transitions

I've been thinking a lot about showmanship in modeling lately so today's post on the Thunder Mesa website is all about scenes and transitions.

Great Info for Beginners.

For many beginners there are hundreds of questions.  Many we discuss here.  I recently received this link and I thought our beginners would be interest in this 8 page document.

From what I'm told is that this document is a handout for a clinic called, "Track Work, Doing it Right."

I found the rest of the clinics at this link.

Telephones

Can a regular set of telephones be used to dispatch. Have tried both a 9 and 7 volts to power them but that did not work. Just want to use them to talk to each other. Any suggestions please.

I am attempting to fit a keep alive Capacitor to a loco fitted with one of these boards. Note that this is the one size fits all version as per this photo

Are the results worth the effort?

I've been working on the trackwork for a 4' module and I've spend close to 8 hours weathering the track, and I'm not finished yet!  I'm just looking for a little validation that all of the effort is worth the outcome.

One thing I will not continue doing is adding joint bars.  Even with adding rust to them before applying chalk, they are invisible.
