It was our biggest set up yet and had lots of visitors who seemed to enjoy themselves.  There where a few new mods online and some improvements to older ones.

Very busy but we had fun and look forward to our next one.

Static Help

Either operator or equipment error is all I can figure. After two tries, my static grass is not standing up. I am using the following:

1. Grass applicator from Micro-Mark with 2 D-cell batteries (brand new) with a strainer type screen.

2. Enlarged the holes with a hat pin and have good flow when "tapping" the plastic arm.

3. Using a finishing nail as a ground into the cork or foam area to be applied.

4. Using Woodland Scenics static grass flocking material.

2 X 8 Free-mo Switching Layout (Module)

I was hoping to get some input on a small switching layout that I am currently designing for myself. I have previously planned and started building a 4X8 that I had to dismantle due to my wife and I expecting our second child; the train-room must be returned to a bedroom and the railroad equipment is in boxes. Although I no longer have a space to setup some sort of permanent layout, I wanted to start planning “the next one”. I started reading more and more about modular railroading and I was intrigued.

switch machines and foam modules

I'm building some Fre-mo-like modules with 2" foam as the surface. How does one mount switch machines such as Tortoise? I don't have plywood under the foam in most areas.

Downsizing

Ok railroad fans, starting next week I will be downsizing my engine and rolling stock roster of both DC and DCC items. BEFORE I put things on eBay, i will provide a list so interested parties can contact me.

Latest update on CNW Engine Terminal relocation

It's been a little while since I posted a update on the relocation of the Watersmeet Engine Terminal on my CNW Peninsula Div. RR. So here it is: This is the new Machine Shop which will be mounted next to the Round House. It is a Walthers kit which I repainted and weathered added a couple of details - AC unit, tank, and additional exhaust pipes. Added a gravel roof also, great way to hide any dust.

Seeking IR detector selection advice

Greetings all,

I’m looking to install a grade crossing on my HO Free-Mo module and am currently comparing the available optical detection systems. For the crossing itself I think I know which controller, grade crossing signal, and bell module I want to use; however, with regard to the detection hardware that will set the whole thing in motion, I’m stuck in analysis paralysis.
