Custom Layout Builders

Hi Everyone,

Over the past year, I just haven't had time to devote to getting the layout really going.  I've got the benchwork done and the mainline is laid, but there's so much more to do.  I'm considering hiring someone to do the work of getting the layout to a point where the track is laid and the rolling stock is operational.  I have no idea if there are companies or individuals who do this sort of work?  If there are, then I wonder what the pros and cons are having such work done?

Your thoughts?

Doug

Help Requested...

After "volunteering" to do something, I need a little assistance....

What is the currently recommended negative Ion generator

for constructing a static grass applicator?

Availability, price, etc.....

Thanks..

Monon Modelers

I'm asking this question out of my own curiosity. How many Monon modelers are out there in Model Railroad Hobbyist land? If you care to identify yourself that is great. I live in North Central Indiana.

Thanks

Greg

looking for recommendation for an N-Scale DCC sound decoder

Hello, I have an n-scale ATLAS Trainmaster SD-60 "DCC ready"  I bought an MRC DCC sound decoder

for it only to find out that it was the wrong decoder. I probably have a non DCC ready loco that this will fit.

But I am looking for advice on what to get for the SD-60 that I mentioned above.

Hand laid #10 60"r and 46"r code 83 Left Curve turnout

Just two hours to build this hand laid #10 curve turnout with no jig just the Fast Tracks Template and some Fast Track tools. I have over 45 hand laid turnouts and still another 65 to build. This is a time laps video of the work. Enjoy the music and see the final product ready for the table.

Marion 4160 Shovel is coming to life

The work on my Marion 4160 shovel is continuing. I settled on an interior, for which I have no idea what should be inside. I put a drum and other "stuff" for looks. Stuck a operator at the controls and glued the roof on.

This shot gives a look at the inside. Here I was gluing the main roof section on.

N scale Bachmann oil conversion

I am converting my coal burning Consolidation to an oil burner while my daughters are doing spin art. Disassembly of the Bachmann 2-8-0’s tender is a bit more complicated than I expected. First you have to unscrew the screws that hold on the trucks. You also have to remove the handrails from the front of the tender, then place a VERY thin screwdriver into the mounting hole for the truck and push the screwdriver into the tender to push the top off. Once you have the tender separated, carefully remove the back of the coal bunker from the coal pile.

How to install BLI Mikado backup light

Has anyone installed a backup light (rear headlight) on the tender of a BLI Mikado?  The models are accurate as USRA Mikados and they didn't have rear lights, but I want to add them anyway.

I've looked in the tenders (I have 6) and there is no obvious place to solder wires for a light.  I bought mine from 2 releases and the decoders are different.  Decoder Pro identifies one as QSI Steam and another as Paragon 2.

Can anyone help?

Bullfrog Manual Switch Machine

Has anyone any experience with the Bullfrog Manual Switch Machines? I am starting a shelf layout depicting an old time logging operation and thought manual trunouts would slow down operations to what would be more typical of the era verses electrical turnout control.

Could this be called a manual 3D?

3D printing consists of layers being stack one on top of the other. This gave me an idea. The roofs of boxcabs have a very shallow curve to their roofs. It's kind of hard to get the right profile over a length of 3 inches or more. While I was working on my boxcabs for the HOn30 quarry line the roofs keep falling off. As i was looking at them I was thinking there has to be a better way. I think I found the answer in the etched kits so popular in Britain. I snagged a kit that was/is produced in Canada. The picture below shows the chassis.
