Possible need to repower a Athearn RTR P42...?

Hello everyone...

I have a P42 as stated.  It seems to run very slow. I have a second Athearn P42 which seems to run much faster.  Even with my JMRI the engine question will only max out at 40 scale mph.  The other P42 tops out at around 65 mph.  Like I said I have gone in and done as much as I can with the speed steps in JMRI.  I have also gone through the gearing in the trucks.  It is used, but I am at a loss.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

Decoder pro and QSI decoders

After watching Joe explain decoder pro I went and purchased the system. Most of my loco's worked fine, but a few of my loco' with QSI Quantum system analog & dcc Q1a sound decoders do not seem to take with decoder pro. This is starting to become very frustrating, I do not know if I am doing something wrong, or these decoders are not able to be used with decoder pro.   Thank You  George

ATSF Bakersfield Ice Deck

I am building the two ice decks that were at the ATSF Bakersfield yard as they were in 1950 for the LaMesa Model RR Club in Balboa Park in San Diego. In 1950 the Santa Fe had modified the decks to support a powered ice machine that ran on rails embedded in the deck. These machines took whole blocks of ice, ground these up and blew the crushed ice into refer ice bunkers. The photos are of the work in progress north deck. The model is made of resin castings from RTV molds of masters I made for the various parts. The overall model will be 9 ft long.

Homasote

I like to think that I am not a hoarder as things are not available where I live when needed so I stock up. Long range plans to have drawbacks and getting out a couple sheets of Homasote it seems that they have developed a distinctive sag sad

Source for typography and railroad era info?

Anyone know of a dedicated railroad source with simple information about fonts and the approximate time they were released.  I'm trying to get together info for a proposal to a decal guy here of decals I'd like to have for my steam locos.  Engine numbers would be simple single digits like #1 , #2, #3  and railroad name would be on tenders. The line is circa 1930 to 1940 at the latest. There are so many font choices available today, I'd like to make sure I'd be using one available in that era.

Flipping up the Mooers Junction N Scale Railroad

Hopefully the above picture got your attention! Getting to the age where 'going under the layout' is no longer an option I came up with the solution shown below. After removing rolling stock it takes only a few minutes to flip to vertical, that includes roling out the racks stored under the layout. In updates to follow I will post additional photos of details and progress to my N Scale Mooers Junction Railroad.

DCC conversion installation on a Rivarossi AC-11 Cab Forward, Need help!

Has anyone installed a decoder on a Rivarossi AC-11 Cab Forward 1997 production year? I just acquired one and I want to convert it to DCC. If anyone has pictures of their installation, that would be great.

A topic of length

This cropped up in the Overweighting topic under Locos and Rollingstock: The subject of train length and scaling down trains to represent trains longer than they are. a 25car train for example representing a 50 car protoype counterpart. The reason for doing, is to fit within the scenes of our layout, as well as the layout's physical capacity. Not many layouts, even clubs have the siding capacity for fifty-100 car trains, (watch, tweleve of you are gonna prove me wrong.

The Bermuda Railway

Is a subject that absolutely fascinates me. To that end I've started a Facebook group to try and gather like minded individuals to share and discuss what we know about this little 22 mile railway across the Bermuda Islands.

Carolina Division - a new layout

After many years arm chair modeling and planning, I have started to work on a new layout. This will be my first “real” layout.  I did built a small 4 x 8 one, years ago when the kids were little. It will be a point to point switching layout of modular construction.
