ATSF FT #146
This is a modified Hallmark Samhongsa FT LA set made to represent #146 used in Bakersfield for local work and Tehachapi helper assignments before the Geeps arrived in 1950. They broke up a 4 unit set, added footboards to lead unit (L) and the rear of the booster (A). There were also additional airlines to the right side of the L unit, handrails, backup headlight from a steamer, reverse running marker light.rear horn and tool boxes under the rear of the A unit. I needed to add extra pickup wipers to the trucks to improve operation. It has a Tsunami TSU-1000.

Should I protect foam board before I lay track?
I am planning a modular switching layout which will have two boards, each to be 1'6" x 3'. I have built foam board railroads before but never really got beyond the "I have got some track down - let's run trains" point. I hope to do better this time so I have been thinking about ground cover etc.

4' x 8' layout anyone?
Like most of us, we started out with a 4' x 8' layout. When I was knee high to a Grasshopper, I was biking home from a railfan trip at Oakville Yard in Ontario and spotted my Dad's car with a 4' x 8' particle board sheet strapped to the roof. Dad was never into the hobby, But he helped me get started! And I thank him for that. Happy Father's Day!
I was looking at Google maps of the area around North of Vancouver and I came across what looked like a 4' x 8' layout!
The first "serious" layout
I stumbled across a bunch of old photos from my teen years and found this gem:
I consider this to be my first "serious" layout, I think it was the first one I had after the initial oval of track as a kid. This was from about 1983 or 1984 if memory serves me.
Engine Weight impact on Draw bar force
Over the last several months, I have been testing a number of HO engines for various performance features. These tests have been all DC. The same section of level track has been used of all of this data. The section is cleaned daily.

ConCor N-scale Turbine
Several years ago ConCor announced a production of U50 and Veranda Turbine and offered the opportunity to preorder for delivery sometime in 2013, so I preordered both but have heard absolutely nothing since, their website still shows the original announcement and some excuse about complexity of the project.
What is your opinion, will they ever deliver or should the product be considered vaporware to be forgotten.
