Locos - Rolling stock (general)
Motive power recomendation?
I wanted to pick your minds. Can you guys give me you recommendation on motive power, as in manufacturers? I see, Bachman, Kato and the likes, but can you tell me what you use and why you use it, pros/cons? I'll be working in HO modern(ish) era diesel.
Thanks,
Leroy
New Corporate Identity
Given that I have acquired my locos without reference to the road names, I now have 4 locos plus a Budd RDC all with different road names. This doesn't matter because I was never going to get any for the Sunset and North Eastern, given that I made up that name in 1970!
My loco roster now stands at the following:
Atlas GP-15 - Union Pacific
Atlas GP-15 - CSX
Atlas GP-9 - Northern Pacific
Bachmann RD-3 - D&RGW
Kato Budd RDC3 - Rock Island
CP ore cars update
It's been a while since I updated my progress on the ore car fleet I'm building. I've been documenting their construction on my blog. I just finished putting all of the underbody details on all of the cars. The Sylvan kit employs lots of wire and small resin parts that are combined to create the various components of the brake system. Here's a sample of what each car looks like belly-up. They're still not finished, but I'm getting close!
An American Garratt
I have these two USRA 0-6-0's sitting around waiting for a project. It's always dangerous when I have models without a specific project in mind. Add to that time spent in a hotel room, waiting to be called for a train, and well..
This is what happens. I kind of like it, actually. I tried to make it so that it would (just) fit on an Atlas 9" turntable, in case I ever actually build this little beastie.
Helpful Hints for Getting Started Building your first Model Railroad
Hello Everybody My name is Dan Kelley AKA: Rio Grande Dan here on the MRH forums.
I'm a member of the MRH Spam Police and spend 40 to 60 hrs a week reading through the many Posts and Blogs here on the MRH forums. While reading I keep seeing one problem that many new Model Railroaders are having and that is "WHERE & HOW DO I START?"
Walthers 50" Coal Gondolas
Anyone know what the basis/Prototype for the New Walthers car is?

Fitting A DCC decoder in to the HO Atlas AEM-7
I am hopefully about to install some DH163's into some AEM-7's. But the space looks very cramped.
To save me trying to fit them in the wrong place, has anyone done this already and can advise?
Old Skool Diesel Shop - U30B
I did something this week I haven't done in many years: I decaled a locomotive. This is another one of my loco projects that's languished in a box, then on a shelf, waiting for me to spend some time on them again. It's not done yet, as Dullcote and weathering are still to come, along with some wheel slip indicator details and window glass, but it's close. About time as I painted it no later than about 1997.
Berkshire Revenue Run
Here are some brief clips of the first revenue run for the NKP Berkshire 763 pulling 18 piggyback cars - max grade was 2% across the layout. Enjoy.
New Berkshire
Here are a few photos of my new Bachmann NKP 763 Berkshire from its speed matching and break-in trials today at the Keystone Midland club layout.
