Remote Uncoupling
Having been one of the advocates against remote uncoupling because of the electrical parts used that was posted by the original poster, I'm wondering if it would be right to approach this subject again.
I started thinking about the whole subject and wondered if it could be miniaturized to fit in the center beam of a flat car or tank car. The way I see it two components need to be miniaturized for it to fit into the center beam of a car, the electronics and the motor or similar device to pull on the coupler.
Down At The Crossing - Part Dos
I finished up the crossing at Meredith Drive on my IAIS Grimes Line layout. Meredith is the only grade crossing that features gates on the prototype so I wanted to include all the bells and whistles. The crossing uses Tomar gates and flashers controlled by a Logic Rail Technology Grade Crossing Pro circuit. The gates are powered with a Tortoise switch motor and two Circuitron Remote Signal Activators. An ITT sound module provides the crossing bell.

Rapido FP9 Finally Arrived!!
In my apparent continuation of free advertising/promotion for Rapido products, I thought I'd post some pictures of my newest acquisition. Yesterday finally saw the arrival of my Rapido VIA Rail FP9's from Dallas Model Works that had been originally ordered back in 2009/2010. After pulling them out of the shipping container, I got out the camera and took some photos as I opened them.
Tapered brass tube?
I need some advice from the modeling gurus here. I want to make an HO scale stack like the one in this photo:
NY,V & N Rwy Motorized Crane
Being inspired by the crane article written by Geoff Bunza I decided to give it a try. I have had an Atheran crane for quite sometime now.
The details follow in the first post ...

Moldable weight?
I'm looking for ideas on how to pack weight into this little locomotive. The boiler is pretty open at the moment, so casting lead is an option. I would prefer something that does not involve a lot of molten metal and broken solder joints, however. I know there is a low-temp weight metal, but where do I get it, how much is it, and will it melt a solder joint on the boiler? Lead shot is an option, but I would like a little better density. Because the model is so small, I really need to get every gr
DCC Sound for Mantua Mallet
Hi Folks
I need some advice on my first foray into DCC Sound.
I have an Ho Mantua 2-6-6-2 Logging Mallet (tender version) which is in the process of being super detailed.
I want to fit DCC sound and very much like the look of Soundtraxx Tsunami. Question is, for a small articulated should it be the medium or heavy steam version?
Strip and Paint Loco body Letters
I'm going to strip and paint this 1951 Lionel Union Pacific loco but I have no idea how to repaint the raised plastic molded letters. Where the paint is it seems to be a "trench" with sides forming the letters Union Pacific. Has anyone had any experience in filling these "letter trenches" in with paint? I need a How-to...101 lesson.
Help needed for Branchline HW pulmann kit
Hi all,
This is my first rolling stock kit. As you can see the roof doesn't sit flat on the body.
I would prefer not to glue it. What can I do ?
I have already learned a lot from this forum, and I have started finishing the layout room (about 30'x9') and in the meantime I start building some kits.
Thanks a lot.
Gerard.
P.S. I apologize for the bad picture, a lot of progress to make with model photography....
Parts swapping
My first attempt at online questions. I have several Rivarossi 2-8-4 Berkshires, and was looking at the Bachmann 2-8-4 as a parts supply. Does anyone have a Bachmann 2-8-4 that can measure the boiler front diameter carefully? I would like to use one for a Rivarossi replacement. The Rivarossi number boards are really rare to find. Thank you.
