25th Street - A Backdrop on the 8th Sub
Backdrops are now underway behind the 25th Street branch.
Manual method for the Walthers 90' Turntable
Hi Everyone, I'd like to install a Walthers 90' turntable kit. However the budget does not allow for a power motorized one. I'd like to be able to manually rotate the table from a remote location, ideally just under the fascia.
Also, I'd like to have power to the turntable tracks to move the locomotives into the stalls.
Hope some other fellow modelers and shed some great ideas. Thanks
Greg
Painting a Timber Overpass
For the structure gurus out there:
I recently completed the assembly of a Rix rural timber overpass. I plan to give it a creosote finish with a fairly heavy weathering to the roadway deck. My plan is to airbrush the base coat on the entire bridge structure, then go back with various washes and dry brushing to weather and add color to the bridge. Here's the manufacturer's photo of the structure:
Backdrop Construction - will this work?
Hi all,
I'm preparing to put the backdrops in on my Bradford Valley Lumber Co. layout, and I'd like to get your thoughts on how I'm planning to do it.
I'm planning to use 4.8mm (1/5") thick masonite, secured at each of the crossmembers, which are approximately 1' apart.
At the rear of the backdrop, a 12mm (1/2") plywood support will run up the entire height of the backdrop. These will be screwed directly to the frame. At the front, below the ground level, L-brackets will secure the masonite to the crossmembers - they'll be screwed along the top.
Eye's bigger than my stomach, or, desires bigger than my motivation.
I initially thought that I would prepare a layout as modules based loosely on the railroad where I grew up. I had started to compile a decent amount of information and purchased a few structure kits and pieces of rolling stock to model. I even assembled a 'module' to start with. Then work got stressful and I wasn't even sure I'd still have a job at one point. The fear of being penny-less forced me to curtail my hobby spending and start putting money aside. Eventually things got better at work. I even got a promotion.

Hi I am sure most of you have seen my past posts on the Model Railroad Club and had a suggestion to combine them all into one so this is where I will move all past posts and future ones so they can be easily found. If anyone has any other suggestions feel free to post them in the comments or PM me thanks again to all of you people who have helped and are following my posts.
Concentrate!
While I wait for some sheet cork to continue laying the yard tracks and other areas of the smelter, it was time to mock up some additional smelter buildings and see how they might work in the space. This is the first area of the layout with any significant structures. I hope to capture the “industrial menace” of the smelter, although the menace part of the equation may have to wait until it is more than just plain cardboard.
Thanks David Calhoun: We Have Scenery
The list of items is slowly increasing thanks to Augusta Track and a MRH local David Calhoun. Below are the images of what he sent for us and the teacher is very thankful. In roughly two weeks I will be scenicing (not sure on spelling) one of the curve modules so we will have an example next year.
tips for collecting ballast in the field
I'm planning a research and rock gathering trip in a few weeks and was going to take a few tubs home. Are there any tips or tricks for this type of reconnaissance? Best lines to use when the state trooper asks what you're doing with a shovel on the side of the road? Are we looking for the finest stuff, or should we be taking larger rocks with the intent to put them in a blender later on?
Thanks!
Rob
Great West Models
I know that they are out of business.
Does anyone know of a source of their products that may still be around.
Thanks
