Analysis Paralysis
My interests are many. I dabble in R/C airplanes, 1:48 plastic model airplanes, photography, model rockets, motorcycles, and HO trains. Like others, my time and money are limited. I'm prone to starts and stops that leave several projects unfinished.
OK, so that didn't turn out as planned!
It's been more than a couple of years now since I even thought about model railroading. After buying my house, and converting the smallest spare bedroom into my modeling work shop, I returned to my first love - R/C airplanes. Even that though was full of starts and stops for me (though at the moment I'm in the middle of a 1/3.5 scale sailplane with a 15'+ wingspan). The other spare bedroom is nicely decorated for company/guests... and has become a repository for half-completed R/C airplanes and model rocket kits!
Eye's bigger than my stomach, or, desires bigger than my motivation.
I initially thought that I would prepare a layout as modules based loosely on the railroad where I grew up. I had started to compile a decent amount of information and purchased a few structure kits and pieces of rolling stock to model. I even assembled a 'module' to start with. Then work got stressful and I wasn't even sure I'd still have a job at one point. The fear of being penny-less forced me to curtail my hobby spending and start putting money aside. Eventually things got better at work. I even got a promotion.
Rolling Stock Modeling
Over the last quarter of the year I've had to work a lot of over time (a problem I know many would like to have) and it's kept me away from home so I haven't been able to get a lot done as far as modeling goes. I have been able to get a few structures built and was hoping to maybe get some rolling stock built and detailed this weekend.
Another Step Toward Progress
My first Module! 30" x 8' table base made with 1"x3" Pine, 2"x2" legs and furring strip bracing. It stands at 48" and I'm 5'-8" so I think it's good. (Also in the photo a long neglected .60 Ultra Sport R/C Airplane and remnants of an older workbench)
