When I last posted I had just completed adding rocks to the newest section of my layout. I flew to CA for vacation on 12/27 and am still here now in LA on business until Feb. Of course that means I don't get to work on the layout but before I left I took a few more photos to share after I had colored all the remaining white plaster with Woodland Scenics earth pigment. It really makes a huge difference. Even without grass or trees the layout starts to look more realistic.
Dry lake beds
Nevada consists of a large number of mountain ranges with valleys in between. Often these valleys have no drainage and during the rainy season water will accumulate into a lake (yes, it does occasionally rain in Nevada). When it warms up the water evaporates and it turns into a dry lake. Nevada has them all over. Railroads sometimes crossed dry lake beds with occasional loss of roadbed and equipment when it rained heavily. I really wanted to depict a dry lake bed and accidentally discovered a technique for modeling one.
New Static Grass Applicator Improvement ?
I have noticed that there is now a USB charged fly swatter. Has anyone yet tried to convert this as a static grass applicator ? My experience with the old fly swatter conversions were less than stellar, They worked, but not as good as the Noch. I like the idea of it being USB charged ( no more batteries ) and it could be always ready to go...but to what extent ? I am willing to give the fly swatter one more chance and build one more...but was hoping someone has beat me to it.

Bare Winter Trees - or Armatures for Deciduous Trees
Came here looking for soldering turnout points? Click here: https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/29221
One of the hardest things about modelling Winter is not the snow, that's easy. It's how to model convincing bare trees. That's the one thing that makes me regret my choice to model Winter. Photos of the region I model often show the rails and roads lined with countless bare trees.
Shipyard Models
All,
Has anyone built a model from Shipyard? They are laser cut paper models, I was looking at the Alcatraz Island Lighthouse 1:87 (H0)- Shipyard ML029- Laser Cut Kit?
Thanks,
Lou

The New 3-D Designed & Printed City Ice Building for Union Station
DIY grassmaster
Hi all, I borrowed a Noch grassmaster but I think it's a bit hefty price wise.
I then saw the article by Luke Towan on how to build your own.
I didn't like to have to scurry around to find the hardware though ...
The electronics were all readily available, and I ordered all of it online.
A friend and I decided to build one each.
The housing then?
I would like the ability to alter it and change the cups and nozzles to suit various types of applications.
