Christmas Tree Train Project
Hello!
I'm looking for some advice on my elevated train project.
I haven't had a train since I was a kid (and that was awhile ago) so I know nothing about building layouts.
I recently purchased the Lionel Polar Express Remote Train Set - O-Gauge, and an additional Lionel - FasTrack - Straight Track - 4 Pack so this gives me eight curved 0-36 FasTrack sections, seven 10" straight FasTrack sections, one 10" FasTrack wall-pack terminal section in total.
Penn Lake 8 The Bridges of Luzerne County (Update 11/18/16)
Penn Lake's Bourbon River Sub crosses numerous water courses, on a diverse collection of bridges. Follow along as I chronicle the construction of them.

SCARM Model Train Layout software v.0.9.31
The new version SCARM 0.9.31 is ready and published, coming with new security features and several new and updated track libraries. Read more details here:
Branchline and Yards
I am researching prototype example of a yard located at the junction between the mainline and branchline. Most example I have seen, have the yard along the mainline and the branchline connection either before or after the yard.
I'm modeling CN in the late transition to late 70s, but the track arrangement could come from anywhere.
Track plan input
I am planning my model railroad on the Southern Pacific Coast Line 1946-1953 for the lower deck and Denver and Rio Grande Western 1930's for the upper deck. I would like some input from fellow modelers on my track plan.
ARZC Layout Update
It has been a long time since my last update. Part of that is due to an addition to our family, we had our first child at the beginning of July, she takes up most of our time, but it is wonderful. I've been working where I can on the layout, mainly getting the subroadbed, roadbed and mainline track installed as well as getting some rough cut fascia put up. I now have a fully functional mainline loop for a continuous run, just need to cut the circuit breakers in when I get there.
Colorado Front Range end of year update
Big change after a brain storm on setting up a Turntable and Roundhouse.Locomotive facilities are starting to take shape. Using .040 Plastic sheet 27" by 8 feet to cove the comers. New signs have arrived at the Layout to label towns and area.

I am looking for ideas that I could use for a small 2'x5' switching layout. I have that much space in my room and am trying to plan as much as possible to pitch the idea to my parents.

Layout Animation Ideas?
The teacher in charge of model railroad club has an abundance of basic DC motors simillar to the image shown. Does anyone have some ideas on uses for them in relation to railroads? I know there are many creative people here so I thought I would ask.
