Grade Testing Equipment

There was much conversation on the forum here about the engine going up a 9% grade. Many ideas were given on how to improve traction and so forth. This morning I did some testing on a track test bed I had built last year to test the pulling power of model engines. I never finished it totally.

Layout Update - 3 Nov 2015: Running Trains & Final Planning

This is the layout update for early November 2015. The wiring for the Paradigm to Union Station yard limit section (soldering feeders, connections to terminal strips, and connections to the main bus) has been completed. A DCC test of this section of power district 2 has also been successfully completed.  All of the tracks, including sidings, in the new section have been fully tested with DCC without any issues.

This picture shows the area where the DCC wiring has been completed.

Clouds come to the Backdrops. How to Paint clouds.

Colorado Front Range November 2015 update

I have started the process of paining back drops! Clouds seam to be everyone fear factor so I show an easy way to paint clouds that takes it to a simple step by step process that anyone can do. the backdrops are not done yet (more to follow) but this is the first step in painting most backdrops. Also curtains are in as a light block and sound block the room is starting to take on a finished look. Hope you enjoy the video and  hope it will help you to as well.

Layout Size - How big is Big Enough?

I have long been a dreamer. Making this really good for me is that I am able to visualize and picture things so well, like how models will look, how a layout scene will appear, and even how a track design will operate. While this has served me well over my lifetime, this ability has not been able to keep me out of trouble. That is, from wanting a layout that is not realistic for my needs or my capabilities.

Another year...

Last time, as you recall, Dr. Smith, Will and the Robot...

Ooops. Wrong forum!

Another year and another chainsaw layout bites the dust!

Christmas tree project

My last train setup was when I was about 12 years old.  I'm now 58 and somehow got this wild hair that it would be really cool for my grandkids (and myself) to do an around the Christmas tree layout.  My goal would be to start very simple; possibly nothing more than an oval enhanced by some of my wife's Victorian buildings.  I would like to have the layout on a partial sheet of plywood and just be able to tuck it away until each Christmas rolls around.  My question is this...what the heck are the logistics of setting up and decorating a seven foot artificial tree

Drawing my track plan

Other than pencil and paper, what do you use to draw your track plan in digital format?

Thanks,

Mike
