Just a clip & video for those who need a prototype to copy.    Another case of  "Don;t look where it was... "

CN Rail Barge Operations

I am looking for information about the CN rail barge operations out of Prince Rupert. I can find lots of info on the Aqua Train which is basically a connection to the Alaska RR. That goes back to about 1980. What I am wondering and cannot seem to find any info on is if there was rail barge operations at Prince Rupert before that. I have found an image or two that suggest that there was rail barge operations before but I can find no other info. I am hoping that some of the CN folks on here may help shed some light on the subject.

Naming Things

Hi Folks:

2 Quick questions:

How are trains named?  Im getting ready to start laying out the different trains that will be running on my layout and I want to get the names right -- if it matters, UP Or BNSF Practice would be appropriate for my line

2. How are switches named or numbered in prototype practice?  Its getting to where I will soon need to start labeling them and want to get it right (again, BNSF or UP is appropriate for my layout)

Has anyone ridden The Canadian lately?

Hi everyone,

I was considering taking The Canadian from Vancouver to Jasper/Edmonton next summer with my wife and two kids, ages 3 and 1 to see the national parks there. Has anyone ridden this stretch recently? What amenities or booking options would you recommend? Thanks!

Question about whistle signals

I know the standard signal when approaching a crossing.  What's done if there's a second crossing a short distance down the tracks, too close for a repeat of the classic signal?  What is sounded?

Planning Switching Moves

An interesting website is Jack Hill's New Castle Industrial Railroad. It sadly has been dormant for years, but is still out there. Jack is a conductor on the Gettysburg Norhern and his layout in O scale is based on the box factory in Biglarville, Pa. There is a post on operations where Jack posts a switching problem.  In involves 13 cars, three shadings and the main. Jack's solution takes 20 moves.  I sat it up on a couple of sidings.
