Prototype Info - Modern Transload Facilities

Hi All,

Looking to add some interest to my proposed yard area and found a perfect building on my prototype that was recently gutted by fire: in my version of present time, my shortline purchases this adjacent property and converts it to a transload facility to serve the many manufacturing firms in the surrounding area.

The Boeing trains

The other day I was in Lodge Grass, MT coming home after working there for the day.  The road parallels the old Burlington Route track between Alliance, NE and Huntley, MT.  Running westbound on that track was what we call "The Plane Train", with one locomotive and one plane body.  Certainly not the usual consist!

I called my wife and asked her to go to the station here in Hardin, and get a photo or two.  She did, but recorded a video instead.  It's too big to post here, but I managed to capture a still from it.

Grain Hopper loading/unloading videos...

As part of my never-ending quest to be the world's ultimate ops geek, I was researching how long it takes to load and unload grain cars. I came across these videos, which are both pretty interesting. Well, interesting if you're an ops geek like me. Anyway, I thought I'd share them here just in case somebody else might be interested. I've seen the loading one before, and may have even posted it here, but if your memory is like mine, you won't notice either.

Interlocking

I did the required history search on MRH and nothing came up.  So here are a couple.    Old videos of Interlocking Towers from the inside and recordings from some of the employees.  All on youtube.  None of them are mine. Filmed by fmnut and DTCblock.

Historical Document regarding the CPRail "Multimark"

An interesting discussion on the Classic Canadian Pacific Facebook site jogged my memory about a document I had concerning the introduction of the CPRail Multimark. I had this since I was a kid, my grandfather was an employee and received The Spanner, the company magazine/newsletter. I was always into the Block and Script schemes but now realize that the Multimark has faded into history. This was a complete reimaging of the entire company, including the magazine which was renumbered 1 Spanner. If you'd like a look I have uploaded the magazine as a PDF on my website.
