Domino Sugar in Chalmette Louisiana

Does anyone have information or photos of the Domino Sugar Refinery in Chalmette, Lousiana?  A track diagram or switching layout would be particularly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Modern steam layout: what if?

Over the past few days I've been watching videos of Southern 630 and 4501 trips from the past couple years. I've worked some trips with those engines as TVRM uses my clubs cars at times. I've also learned most of what I know about steam on 630. All this got me thinking about a new concept for my layout. "Modern class 1 Steam" what if there was a modern class 1 railroad that held on to steam power.

is there any trackplans for the kettle falls branchlines?

Staging yard height

Hi,

I have been lurking for a little over 5 years, but will hopefully soon be done with finishing my train room (9' x 28').

I am thinking of a 3 levels layout (UP steam, I LOVE big boys), with one level for staging.

I wonder if anyone has put the staging on the upper level (5' 10") ?

It would leave me more storage space under the layout, what are your thoughts ?

I will come back later for help with the design.

Thank you,

Gerard

Musings about a Freelance Concept

Hey all,

Though I don't currently have the space to start actually building a layout (the old college life and all) I keep thinking about the railroad I want to build after I get out of here and on my own.

The one thing I can do in my apartment is start working on a fleet of equipment for the future road, but before I take the plunge into buying some new stuff I want to establish the concept.

My Grand Plan

So I've been dreaming of a layout for going on years (if not my entire adult life).  I've pretty much narrowed down my era (Steam probably middle verging on early) I'm not 100% sure.  I've spent a good bit of time with SCARM and came up with this layout:

I'm worried it might be a bit ambitious for a first time modeler.  I've lined up help for the benchwork.

Looking for layout design advice

Have a common room available for a potential layout and I'm looking for advice.

Room size is 3 meters wide by 4.7 meters long but only about half length is available. Thus available for layout is approximately 3 X 2.4 (10' X 8'). North wall has a small window high up (not a problem), west wall has a window after 2.4m (8'), east wall has a door after 2.1m (7') opening outwards. South is open space in common room.

The Free Layout Design Software SCARM now with Model Trains Simulator

The new SCARM v. 0.9.34 is ready and published, coming with new and updated track libraries and also with a new extension - the brand new Model Trains Simulator.

N scaled used on HO distant perspective

I'm going to add a distant picnic scene on a hilltop and would like to have a couple of stationary cars nearby. I'm going to run HO on my layout but would like to get the perspective of a distant rail line on a hill side. Distance to the HO tracks would be approximately 12" - 20" away on this hillside. I don't want it to look like it's too far away but not too close. I'm thinking of N scale on the hill side. Z maybe a little too far in the distance.

Anyone else ever used this perspective before? Suggestions?

Thanks.

8x8 L shaped layout. Shelf or tabletop?

Just recently purchased my home and I have access to the basement storage area. It needs to be drywalled and somewhat finished. But I'm looking at adding a layout in the room. I have an area that is 8' x 8' in the corner of the room. I do like the idea of a shelf layout, but could also do a table top layout as well.

Are there any plans out there for such a layout? Height for the shelf layout? I was thinking 42" height and 30" wide. that will give me plenty of room to add my track as well as buldings for the backdrop.

Suggestions please.
