Pembroke II - The Plan
I should come clean: Pembroke I, the layout I described in Model Railroad Planning back in 1999 never really got off the ground. Oh sure, I built enough to take some photos for the article, but for a number of reasons, Pembroke it was unsatisfying. It languished in my new basement when we finally bought a home for it, and I could always find excuses not to work on it - there were other projects; I was unhappy with the height of the dam and the water; the modules weren't straight. You get the idea.
Chief among the excuses was that the room was not comfortable. I have just spent the past year and a half renovating and insulating the basement, and now it is a comfortable room. The renovation isn't quite finished, but the garage is cleared out, and the Proto:87 Posse has been itching to get started on construction, and so, we're making a start.
Shot some photos for layout tour this summer
I recently dragged out the ol' camera to take some photos of the layout for the upcoming layout tour and open house this August to coincide with the narrow gauge convention in Pasadena, CA. Taking these helped me notice what needs work, (which is just about everything) and focus in on what can realistically be improved before August.
Progress Update on E-Oaks Branch
Hi Folks,
a short but great update on my Elizabeth Oak Branch Line :
The "Golden Spike" was applied on March 7. Now I can run trains over the complete layout.
It took me since December 2011 to get to this point, some test attempts to build up the landscape included.
Mainline length roughly calculated is about 56.5 feet long without staging yards
Now I can focus on building up scenery and improve my rolling stock.
MFTR Layout Progress #3
I've finally gotten around to creating a new layout progress video to show off what I've been working on lately.
I've started using an iPhone 4s with the iMovie app to record, edit, and publish the video. It's a bit quirky to use and I haven't had an HD video successfully published to YouTube yet, but It is very convenient and will hopefully encourage me to produce videos more often.
NMRA layout tour... Zero hour
Well, The sixth division NMRA meet is being held in Calgary this weekend, and I'm on the layout tour. Never been involved in an NMRA tour before, don't know what to expect. I've participated in some local CMRS (Calgary Model Rwy. Society) tours and had a great time.
We got the notification a bit over 2 months ago, and I must say, We've gotten more things accomplished in the last 2 months that we have in the last year. There's nothing like a deadline to light a little fire under one's ass.

Layout Construction
I am putting the cart before the house or vise versa. I have posted pics. before of finished areas and/or finished structures. But based on a post in the discussion section on benchwork I would like show what I did for my layout build. But bear in mind this was how I did it and is not the only way.
