Guest Operators Arriving today, Setting up.

Guest Operators Arriving today,  Setting up. - It has been a busy month.  Multiple groups of guest operators have been over.  Lots of people from out of town want to check in.  Consider joining Opsig.org if you are into operations.

Insulfrog Help

Okay, I have an intermittent problem with engines (H-10's) stalling at some (but not all) insulfrog switches on my layout - especially at low speeds. Is there a way to correct this? I understand that frog juicers do not work on insulfrog Code 83 switches.

All engines have been speed set up correctly and "crawl" over most of the layout. On some switches, the engine stops and then "reconnects" with the dcc program and start again. Jerky, but the momentary stop drives me crazy. On some points, a slight nudge to the engine gets it going again.

How things get their names (An interesting story)

This concerns my "after the fact" prototype so I'm assuming it might be of interest to some model rails.
I find interest in how things are named and in my part of the country at least, a lot of things are their old "Indian names" especially rivers.

Prototype Shortline Switching

As I was reading the April 2019 MRH Running Extra, I noticed that one of the articles mentioned that the modern age is almost all unit trains and there's no/very few switching opportunities. As a former conductor for a short line, I'd like to give a detailed description of what a typical day is like in the modern (2011-2013) age. The area I used to work (company names omitted) was an industrial park that was about 3 miles wide (east-west) and 5 miles (north-south).

April Fools! Let's have some fun!

We decided to have a competition this year, for the silliest April Fools Train.  Good ol' fashioned fun ensued!  Not to mention the gang brought some pretty awesome trains to run on the layout.  Hope you enjoy!

Seaboard Central March 2019 Layout Update

Hello All,

Here’s the link to my latest update. Included in the video are three Atlas GP38s that have had LokSound decoders, LED lights and custom speakers from Scale Sound Systems installed.

Starting Over. What a mess!

After being my two sons' Cubmaster for almost 10 years I find myself with some free time again (though not too much as I am still an Assistant Scoutmaster for the Troop). Still, I feel big weight has been lifted. Why don't I turn that now open Monday nights into model railroad time?

Unfortunately, in the last ten years my layout - which never got beyond the "Plywood Pacific" has become a dumping ground.

NP 40' Boxcars project (HO)

Hi all,

I finished 2 NP 40' boxcars based on Trix/Marklin 40' cars. The original cars had their paint removed and were disassembled. Following conversion of their sills to the correct NP ones and alterations on the side rivets, they were primed. Painting was done with mixes from Gunze and Tamiya paints while I used Microscale's decals. Roofs were painted with shades of Alclad2 and were weathered using salt-weathering. The rest of the weathering was done using enamels/oils.
