A tour of the Greenpoint Dock & Transfer Engine House

I'm 90% of the way through my 1st structure for my layout and thought I would share some pictures.  With my engine house I'm looking to capture all of the "beauty" that was New York in the mid 70's.

1:1 Japanese Trains

As promised (or threatened as the case may be), here are some shots from the Kyoto Steam Locomotive Museum, and some others from around Japan.

I was happy to be able to ride everything you see here, from a small excursion train pulled by that 4-6-2 under steam, to a 300kph Shinkansen (新幹線) bullet train. For a trip that wasn't rail oriented, it kinda worked out nicely!

I wish I modeled modern N scale

I wish I modeled modern N scale. No I mean it, I really do.

We just returned from Japan, where I was able to ride some trains, do some rail-fanning, and visit a number of hobby shops in Tokyo (although that wasn't the main purpose of our visit). Although mostly Japanese prototypes, the selection of N gauge items were amazing - the range of vehicles, and things like shipping containers were mind boggling.

Learning Xtrakcad - More video's added

I am learning Xtrakcad. I have asked a few questions on MRH and got some great answers. It's a hard program to learn but maybe I can help others out. I have a small video that I posted on Youtube. So here it is.

On Staycation

I've been on vacation/staycation for the past week, its nice to have a little time of work to pursue other things, oh of course I have plenty of work to do around the house, but I also want to have some fun while on staycation, So I made a trip over to Dana's RR Supply and ran a train, couldn't afford to buy anything, since we were surprised last Saturday that we needed to put a couple of tires on the car, (tires are sure getting expensive these days), and after buying gas, purchasing a locomotive last week, I wasn't doing much of anything else! But I did run a train!

Suggestions for lightweight roadbed material

After calling around to every lumber yard and home improvement store within 50 miles, NONE carry homosote! Checking into the blue/pink foam material, I'd have to buy a truckload (not this week, anyway) to get some for my roadbed for the 4' x 20' layout.

And Yet Another Withlacoochee River Report

Here I am again, to offend you with my compelling rhetoric!

Withlacoochee River Report

Another report, so you can continue to be offended by my compelling rhetoric!

A Tale of (One Train and Two Layouts in...) Two Cities

On Friday I hosted a fellow British Columbia Railway modeller from Vancouver who had come to Calgary to take in the 'Supertrain' show.  The trip provided an opportunity for him to see my N Scale Fort St. John Subdivision in person, and to have some fun with interchanging a train (His layout contains part of the Fort St. John sub as staging).  There were a few challenges including the fact that neither of us has yet to lay track to Septimus (where are two layouts "meet"), and there is a difference in eras (mine is 2002 vs. his at 1977).
