50s - 60s tank cars for liquid fertilizer

I plan to have a fertilizer/farm supply industry on my layout. From discussions with former FEC engineers, this company received boxcars of bagged fertilizer and tank cars of liquid fertilizer.

Question for freight car experts; for my era of late 50s early 60s what kind of tank car would carry liquid fertilizer? Also, would the tank cars be UTLX lettered or a chemical company such as Dupont or Hooker?

Thank you.

The Boeing trains

The other day I was in Lodge Grass, MT coming home after working there for the day.  The road parallels the old Burlington Route track between Alliance, NE and Huntley, MT.  Running westbound on that track was what we call "The Plane Train", with one locomotive and one plane body.  Certainly not the usual consist!

I called my wife and asked her to go to the station here in Hardin, and get a photo or two.  She did, but recorded a video instead.  It's too big to post here, but I managed to capture a still from it.

C&TS Visit

Visited the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad the last couple days.  I highly recommend it.  Very railfan friendly, and feels like its an active RAILROAD rather than a tourist ride.  I will post some pix as I get them organized.

"Derra North" - An improbable ultimate layout

Hi all,

This blog is about "Derra North" - the Unanderra North Junction on the South Coast Line of NSW Australia, It is perhaps my "ultimate layout" that will almost certainly never be built.

Previously I'd written on another thread

Boxcar cement car conversion

I am looking for any information on which train lines ran the USRA single sheathed boxcar converted to a cement car. I have a Tichy model with no decals. I currently model Seaboard Air Line early-mid 60s (pre-merger).

Thanks,

Ben

SP McKeen Car #31

I’m repowering and installing DCC sound in an LMB McKeen Car and I’d like to finish it to appear as in the photo on page 244 of Mac Gregor’s South Pacific Coast sitting in front of the Ben Lomond depot circa 1912. Can anyone guide me to realistic modeling paint colors suitable for airbrushing? I have it on good authority fron Fred at the Pasadena Whistle Stop that the body was Pullman Green. The roof and the trucks are in question.
