Grain Loads and Boxcars

Hi everyone,

I was curious as to how you simulate grain loads, namely corn or wheat in HO scale? I am seeking to detail boxcars for grain loading and would like to show loads in cars with operable doors. I am also looking at how to create grain doors in both paper and board forms, prototype and model photos would be greatly appreciated.

Quinnimont WV Water Tower

So I am modeling Quinnimont West Virginia.  In the late summer of 1943.  Part of that is the somewhat unique water tower.  It was tall with steel legs and was a so called "typical" C&O water tower.  As such I have the standard drawings for it.

However the C&O never built anything the way the drawings showed they where more of a suggestion the actual plans so everything is a bit different from one to the next.

Wetterau Food Services Micro Layout

Introduction:

The Wetterau Food Services Micro Layout was completed in February of 2016.  Layout planning and construction began in 2014.  I am currently enjoying operations on the layout, and wanted to share the steps I followed in building this micro layout here on MRH.   I  have learned quite a bit in building it, and hope you will find it informative.

What about a new station name?

Tynset Station, Norwegian State Railways

This Station is at Tynset, on the Norwegian State Railways line from Hamar / Elverum to Trondhjem. I kind of liked the Station sign here ;-)

Genesee & Wyoming Industries purchases the Providence & Worcester

Genesee & Wyoming Industries purchased the stock of the Providence & Wooster Railroad for $125 million. At $25 per share, it was 53% over the closing bell price of P&W shares at Friday's closing bell. This purchase gives GWI the majority of the New England rail market. I would not be surprised to see Norfolk Southern take over Guilford Transportation/Pan Am Railways.
