Modeling general discussion

Reference pics: Mines, mills, weathering and more
I finally finished posting a report on my latest adventure, exploring old mines and ghost towns in Nevada and the Mojave desert:

Sugar Cane layout by Jack Luyt this one has animation.
I found this one while looking at videos for HOn3 layouts. This is very well done. He models the tropics very well.
@ Geoff, this one is for you!

The Invention of Frijolene
Here comes a story almost too amazing to be 'true'...the story of how Frijolene was discovered. I will be posting it in a following reply so the long tale doesn't 'wrap' at the top of each topic page. Enjoy!
1961-1966 HO scale Ford Pickup
Does anyone know who made an HO model of a 1961-1966 Ford Pickup Truck?
I have two that I purchased several years ago and can't, for the life of me, remember who made it.
It's plastic and is detailed quite well.
I've searched e-bay and most everywhere on the Internet with zero results.

Another new technology called 3D Doodler
Here is another new technology taking the art scene by storm. Now to just figure out a use for it in model railroading. See what you think.
There are a lot of videos about this on YouTube. It is currently available at Michael's stores.

Weekly Photo Fun: September 26 - October 2, 2014
Time to start a new week once again. Time is flying by. Hard to believe October is almost here. Sorry I have nothing to start us out with.
As Andrew always says:
As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!
Rapid Prototyping lecture
Rapid Prototyping (3D printing) is a popular topic here so I thought I'd mention this. If you happen to be in the Hillsboro, OR area on September 29 there is a presentation about Rapid Prototyping as used by Laika Studios in their stop motion movies. While not train related, I'm sure it will be an interesting presentation about RP applications as Brian and his crew push the current limits of the technology.

Using 3D printing for collaboration & prototyping
With all the talk of 3D printing for the purpose of building finished models, I thought it might be interesting to show another use. I'm working with another modeler to develop a boiler and cab (which will presumably be 3D printed) for a Florida East Coast 4-6-2, better known today as Savannah & Atlanta #750. While I work on the boiler, he's working on the chassis, drive, cylinders, etc. In order to make sure that our parts will fit together, I suggested he have this model printed:
