Weekly Photo Fun - October 3rd to October 9th

Excellent thread last week! But, it's time to start up this weeks photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Peavy Grain Reefers

Back in the late 60's/early 70's, Peavy bought used steel reefers for grain loading.  They removed the ice bunkers and loaded them with grain.  They were painted blue.  I remember seeing them, but never took a photo.  A search of the usual web sites has not resulted in a picture - Any one have pictures of those cars they can post?

Pictures being darkened by upload to MRH site - problem?

I have noticed that when I upload pictures now (using Windows 7 / Firefox) that they are darkened significantly by the process and look horrible in the postings as a result.  I just noticed that another poster to this site is having the same problem.  I tried using different browsers (Chrome & IE) and I have the same problematic results.

What's going on?

Another Animated Door....

I was inspired to try this by the recent post by Rich (Richlawn RR) on Animating a Door.  So thanks again Rich!

This is a scratch built structure that I had started last winter which still had an accessible interior, so it was a good candidate for a powered door..

New iPad issue.

One of two things has happened on my iPad Mini.  When I hit the return key instead of going to a new line the cursor is jumping to the beginning of the current paragraph.  Now either this is a new feature of iOS 8 or some change of features on the new servers.  I hear iOS 8.2 will be released quickly to fix some issues.  Is anybody else experiencing this problem?

Verso paper mill in Bucksport, ME closing

Just another indication that dead tree publishing is losing ground. 570 jobs are being lost. This also represents the loss of a good sized revenue generator for Pan Am Railway (née Guilford, nee Maine Central) and a nice spot to watch plant switching.

Fletcher's Granite Quarry in Westford, MA

Here is a great video that I just found on YouTube. Railroad operation in a quarry. I think this will make a great small layout for switching/operation.

O-27 to S scale conversion

Finally got around to finishing up my S scale Southern Pacific hy cube boxcar. It's an old Lionel O-27 car that I narrowed and replaced the O gauge trucks with S scale trucks to make an S scale Hycube.  I've always like the old red SP auto parts cars so thought this shorter version would make a neat addition to my S scale fleet. ...DaveB

Start a Free-Mo N or Ntrak Group in the NYC Metro region

Hello fellow N-scalers,

I would like to reach out to N-scalers in the greater NY metropolitan area. NY City, Westchester and Long Island to see if there is interest in forming a modular group using either the N-Trak or Free-Mo N standards. Please suggest the best method for contacting you.
