Modeling general discussion

New YouTube channel

Hi everyone

My name is Luke Towan, I'm relatively new to model railroading but absolutely love it! I'll do all I can to get new people interested in the hobby.

I've recently started a new YouTube channel on model railroading and I've recently posted some how to videos, some on scenery and a few others on wiring and trackwork.

If your interested here is a link to my channel :

world's biggest model railroad.???

Stumbled across this article on a from the Daily Mail in the UK on The Northlandz model railroad, in Flemington, New Jersey built by Bruce Williams Zaccagnino and his wife over a 16 year period.

Train watching with a drone

A quad-copter with a camera takes train watching to a whole new level! A short video I shot yesterday near Hagersville, Ontario of the Southern Ontario Railway doing some switching. The perspective from above will most likely appeal to model railroaders as it's a familiar view.

1950's farm equipment

Does anyone know where to find more Farm equipment in HO scale from the 1950's in the US.

I found GHQ pewter models (good stuff and accurate), Athearns John deere (colors on some are wrong).  Woodland scenes tractors, but I am not sure what brand they are trying to model.

TWMRC

This is an update on Art Houston's video of the Texas Western Model Railroad Club.   The TWMRC has moved to a  new location in Forrest Hill off of Forest Hill drive.   The track, switches ,buildings and electronics were saved, none of the scenery.  Ft Worth is the center of the layout with track running to Houston and maybe St Louis and don't know about Denver.  The building owner passed away and the children want big money for the building from the train club.

3D printing - Friend or Foe?

So far I haven't seen this problem discussed anywhere but I've been thinking about it. The question is, will having access to a tool that will successfully allow us to copy what's out there (I'm assuming perfect technology at an affordable price) hinder or help our hobby.

Play/Operate

Hi, I am wondering,

Do you feel you are at ‘play’/can be ‘playful’ whilst operating (prototypically, or thereabouts a model railway). Essentially, are there any differences between play and operate to you, and whether essentially play might not be part of operate for you? I ask in the context of trying to write a piece conceptualizing play in the model railway hobby, it would be great if you could offer your thoughts on this if you like.

Weekly Photo Fun -- September 19th to September 25th

It's time to start up this weeks photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Workbench helper idea

I have found that a small piece of smooth glazed tile is ideal for dispensing  upon  small amounts of super glue and other adhesives that are best applied with a small applicator or toothpick.  What makes this especially neat is that I let the unused material just dry and the then just a quick swipe of the single edge razor blade makes it clean again for re-use..

Kendall from Blue Caboose

Has anyone talked to Kendall from Blue Caboose within the past few months?  I have not heard back from him via email since mid-June and want to make sure he is doing ok health-wise.  Thanks.
