Modeling general discussion

my coffee table layout begins

this is my coffee table display layout. this was the beginnings with only the bottom level being glued down. if this post works more will follow with more images. the plan is simply 3 loops not connected. they start at the bottom in a proposed city with a streetcar line. moving out the next level steps up and the outer level steps up again. the other pictures show this.

Prototype Track Question

Saw this attached to the rail while waiting for the Lake Shore Limited at the Buffalo-Depew Amtrak station.  Any ideas what the purpose of this device is?

Thanks Chris

Another great Layout: Rue De La Glaciere

There is a well known French HO scale layout that has been published in the LR magazine, and some photos have been posted on an other forum as well. The layout is called "La rue de la Glacière" which is an outstanding layout and shows great modeling skills.  Sharing the pictures here for those of you who are interested on variation of modeling skills, scenery, weathering and philosophy from an ocean away:

Sidewalk - Bar Mills -

I am looking for feedback/comments on Barr Mills Sidewalk kit - HO scale - laser cut kit made of compressed cardboard. My question is what is your experience with it?

I have bought some, painted them, glue them in place and notice it does not seem to take "wash" very well.  Maybe I am wrong.

Thank you

Looking for something different to model?

If you're looking to get away from modeling the same ol' places, here's a challenge for you:

http://bermudarailway.net/

Bermuda's scenery is stunning and the web can provide endless photography.  Of course, you could visit and see for yourself!  Google Earth is your friend, too.  But take a wheelbarrow load of cash or supersize your Amex card . . .  Prices are high there; they do that to keep the riffraff out.  So, traction guys, this is your challenge - anybody game?

E-reader, ummm... Old guy! how to.....

So in a thread a long time ago, Joe F recommended an E-reader for me to use since I like reading mags in bed and I don't read the mag here as well as I like as I don't like reading long items while seated.  So after much contemplation, meditation, internal arguments and debates, I thought I'd go for it.

Shopping for 3D Printer - How many Micron's is optimal for HO Scale

I was just on newegg.com and they have two pages of 3D Printers listed ranging in price from $600-$1500.  My question is, how many microns should I be looking for to produce decent HO Models?  The lowest one I could find is 70 microns, is that finite enough, or do I need to wait for the technology to improve where it is even smaller?

Thanks.

Airbrush Questions

OK, when it comes to airbrushing, I'm a real dummie
I have a few very basic questions regarding my air brush.
It is a badger 200 single action siphon feed. I plan to use it for painting structures, windows etc. Also for basic track painting. I use acrylic paint.
1. Since you usually put down a couple of light coats, How long do you wait for the paint to dry before applying the second coat.
